Hi all,
This is my take on "Sing Sing Sing" of Benny Goodman.
I am more a Shadows / Surf guitar player than a Jazz player, but I felt like doing this timeless tune.
This is the better quality video and sound:

(<u>Videos: "Sing Sing Sing")</u>
It's faster to download from Youtube, but the sound and video quality
are not good:

Anyway, I felt like playing it. I play 2 guitar harmony lines in the backing track.
Regards,
Abel

Hi Jeff,
Glad you liked it.
I was planning to go see the "OuterWaves" and the "Hot Rod Trio" band tomorrow (thank you for the timely email), but my daughter and son are here.
I was also planning to go see "Danny Dean and the HomeWreckers" an excellent Rockabilly band at the "Park Bench" in Huntington Beach on Sunday, but ... it's Mother's day.
Danny Dean is a very busy artist but he said that as soon as he has
a window, he would like to do a Cliff Richard tribute CD with me.
Exciting !.
I' ll keep you posted.
Regards,
Abdel

Keep us all posted Abdel. You have to get some players and start playing out. I was just blown away by how great that was.

I really enjoyed that young Abdel. Looks like you enjoyed yourself while doing it and that's what matters most. Thanks!

Nice! If it's that good in the spare bedroom, imagine it on stage in front of a large, appreciative audience....... let us know when you tour the East Coast, I'll be in that audience for sure!

Dang, I must not be practicing enough!! Abel that was fantastic!! Git ur bohinney in a band and start performing. That's too much talent to waste in a spare room in the house.

Sorry Abdel, my fingers got criss crossed and I misspelled your name in my last post. Of course, if I could play like that you could spell ToneBoy any way you wanted!!

Hey! Aren't you the guy who did Brubeck's "Take Five" using a MIDI
guitar a while back? That was pretty wild.
As for this--what can I say? It's simply amazing! And what's more,
you look like you're having a blast doing it! Truly inspired. . . and
inspiring!
IMHO, "Sing, Sing, Sing" was the first true rock 'n' roll song--NOT "Rocket
88." Didn't Louis Prima write it? I think he was with Benny Goodman's
band at that time. Regardless, even if one doesn't consider it "rock 'n'
roll," you have to admit that it was a HUGE influence on what became
rock, especially that promoted by Bill Haley & the Comets.

Glad you liked it,
(I was expecting tomatoes and rotten eggs given the age of the tune).
Mournblade,
Yes I did Take Five with the GR20, a great device really.
You are right it was indeed Louis Prima who wrote the tune.
Benny Goddman made it famous though.
ToneBoy, Bong-O, DannySnider,
I would like to play in a band and do some Shadows tunes, and some
surf musicians are interested, but Surf music is thriving here in So. Calif.
and most musicians are involved with several bands which limits the possibilities.
I might have to look towards back East where our friend UnsteadyFreddy is and get his support there.
Seriously though, if we can get a good Shadows tunes set ready for next year (that does not exclude a couple of well chosen Surf tunes), there might be a real good chance to be featured at Shadowmania 2009 representing the USA for the first time at that fantastic event.

Abel

I'll watch the video when I am home tonight. Just wanted to chime in and say that Los Straitjackets cover "Sing Sing Sing" so us surf guys are familiar with it and won't throw things at you Abdel.
Ivan Pongracic Jr & Sr's The Troubadours have represented the US at the North American Shadowmania before. I wish those videos would show up on YouTube.

Brian,
You are right, I remember having heard about a band called the "Troubadours" back East. And I saw an article written
in a Rock Instrumental website in UK. I didn't know they had played at Shadowmania. It must have been a few years back as I only knew about Shadowmania the last 4 or 5 years only.
It would be great to see a video of them. I hope someone will post it in the forum.
I also would very much like to hear the "Los Straightjackets" version. It must be very special and unique.
Thank you for the correction. I hope you also like my version.
Blessings,
Abel
