Which reminds, me, folks - and please pardon my ignorance - what is a bsa? (Yes, sorry, back to etymology.)

Assuming SPs were talking about a motorcycle and not their Boy Scout troop leader, BSA refers to the Birmingham Small Arms Company.

SP are not the only ones to have written about BSA bikes.

there's a Dutch band "Normaal" (normal) which has a classic (in the netherlands anyway) "oerend hard" (damn fast) about two guys riding bikes.... the prechorus goes "Bertus on his Norton and Tinus on his BSA" (in dutch, it sounds like Bay Ass A-as-in-blah) .... listen at 0:40 - 0:45

From now on, I will pronounce the name of the song that way :).
I actually came up with that song and title, so here's the back story, if you care:
When my parents met at UCLA in 1962, my dad's mode of transport was a BSA motorcycle. When they got news that I was on the way, he traded it in for a VW Beetle.
I've always laughed to myself thinking about my Mom riding on the back of a bike.
So anyway, it's in tribute to my dad giving up some cool points for lil' ol' me and mom.
I tried to write it in the style of a Hondells instrumental with a bike riding feel, with a complete ripoff of the Ventures thrown in for good measure (or 4) :). I checked the chords with Dave and sang him the melody, so he could pick it out. I could pick it, but not in time, so...
Scott had that creepy lead that's in the coda already kicking around, so we just stuck it on there with Dave's help in the transition. As usual, John and Robert just did their thing without me saying anything, and it turned out to be a song.
I still get a kick out of bands covering our originals. What a trip!
PS Tormentos kick ass.

Boss BSA is my favorite tune by SPs. The whole Melody and changes sound very good, and I like the fact that its longer than ur average surf song, I listen to alot of Santana(67-71)and im usto long songs, Like 1 of ther jams is 44mins long(damm). But Boss Bsa is badass, now that were talking bout SPs I was wondering is "Music to Watch Girls by" an Original? Sounds familiar. Another fav of mine.

NO its Not
Im not sure who wrote it but in the 60's
an Argentinian band called "MALVICCINO & THE STRANGERS"
use to play it. Must be some material from a band of that era...
may be someone in the forum could enlighten us.

I had a BSA Bantam when I was young. Too young to ride it legally in fact, which resulted in some problems with the police. tut tut.....

Captain,
What I described was pretty typical of how one of the songs I came up with evolved. Dave usually came up with the chord chart and lead for his, but left the rhythm section and other parts up to the rest of us. This was usually achieved through lots of practices and playing the song over and over. Changes could then be suggested and made to the arrangement or different parts. Scott and Robert usually came in with riffs and the rest of us would work on it with them from there. Occasionally, Dave and Scott would get together with the intent of writing and come up with some good stuff.
Now in the 00s we can all record on our computers and send stuff back and forth.
