the danelectro pro may be a garage surf guitar. just got one, cheap, easy to play and trashy sound. can"t play it much past the 12th fret because of the body shape--it's a weirdish rectangular thing, 2 pups and trem. there was garage surf in my day, but we didn't call it that. not a fender sound, just a trashy silvertone sort of sound. it does have a bit of jangle to it. not for pros i think but its a cheap 2nd guitar for the hobby players. i give it a 6.5 out of 10. needs a case or bag with it. much fun with good vibes--especially it you like it's trashy tone!!

I've got one in keen green. It's not exactly a versatile guitar, but it is a lot of fun. Super lightweight and a much better build than the danos that were going around in the 90s. I'm going to give mine to my nephew along with my blues jr when he gets a little older.

I bought a Dano Pro. I'm relearning the guitar. I haven't played since high school 25 years ago. I needed a cheap guitar with a nice tone and I really like what I heard from the Dano. The fact that I can't play it much past the 12th fret isn't an issue since I can't play it much below the 12th fret either. I do like how light and easy it is to play, though.
If you look up Danelectro on Wikipedia, you'll see my guitar.

And here are a couple of YouTube videos by the guitarist for the Siderailers demonstrating his Dano Pro:

Congrats on being one of The Few, The Proud, The Danelectro Players
Danos have their idiosyncracies, but sound like nothing else. Have you seen this guy http://ca.youtube.com/watch?v=UUMm7C-Hpmo doing the Joe 90 theme?

I have. In fact I've passed that video on to a friend who is both a guitarist and a Gerry Anderson TV fan.
I'm using a little Honeytone practice amp, but I'd like a low-watt tube amp with a clean sound so the twanginess of the Dano isn't lost. Any suggestions? Or should I ask this in another thread?

I haven't tried my Dano on hundreds of amps, but I do have two practice amps, and the one I much prefer is -- brace yourself, I don't know if you'll be able to stand the shock -- the Fender. I have described it before, so here's the link:
