I’ve never seen a bass/guitar doubleneck Mosrite!

The Exotic Guitar of Kahuna Kawentzmann

You can get the boy out of the Keynes era, but you can’t get the Keynes era out of the boy.

When my Wife and I were up in Jonas Ridge back in '88 S.O.ing my MarkI, we saw a Sunburst version of that Doubleneck with the white P'Guard being modified for something or another on the racks with a bunch of other Mo's. . Semie had told us he thought he had made between 3 to 5 of them. Of course, it was an S.O. Uncle Semie was notorious for making 1 on 1's and Custom Orders. That's basically what put him on the map. He had already made his name "present" when he made the Doublenecks for Joe Maphis and Larry Collins, but if Nokie had not brought his Jazzmaster in to get the neck shaved down one sunny day, we actually may of never heard of Mosrite on a National level.
p.s. I'm just as happy with my late '66 J.M. Doubleneck (12/6) Mr. Green

Me niether. I think that is the coolest thing. I've noticed you find the most interesting old guitars being used in some unlikely places. Like the covers of old gospel records. I just remembered that Semie Mosely did the gospel circuit himself. He probably sold quite a few guitars to that crowd.

Websurfer, he was actually known to "GIVE THEM AWAY" to the Gospel Circuit, ESPECIALLY his GOSPEL Models which were Clones of the "Celebrity" Models.

There is a guy in DePue Ill. who plays in a local Top-40 band. These guys have played for a number of years at the APBA Pro Outboard National Power Boat Racing Championships in the beer garden. He has two of them and that's all I've ever seen him play! They sound pretty damn good I might add (even before I've made the conversion from boat racer to beer drinker)........... ed

Traditional........speak softly and play through a big blonde amp. Did I mention that I still like big blonde amps?

Here's a fake one!

Surfneptune, you got me! Is it a copy of a Univox Hi-Flyer D.Neck maybe by Eastwood, Dillion, etc, etc, or is this one of your creations??? Hmmm

It was put together by a local repair guy out of two univox Highflyers, using one body, he cut it in half, got a piece of wood and glued both halves to it, and finished the german carve to match the rest of the body, unfortunately the guy who did the work insisted on putting the guitar on top, this created a whole bunch of problems in my opinion. it's a beautiful guitar to look at but very neck heavy. and not very easy to play. Eventually we both played fender doubles with the bass on top. I have some shirts with this guitar on them left from those days. The band has not totally abandoned the double neck concept, Hap hazzard is working on a new double Tele, and I have a dano baritone/6 string that I play. For now we are mono-necks...

Your uncle was Semie? I have seen only one real Mosrite double and that was in Bakersfield.

And you have a real 66 Fender double? I only thought they made them more recently as a custom shop model? I would really love to hear about that!!

very cool!!!

I'm not related to to the Man, but the expression or name, "Uncle Semie" was a nickname he earned in a close circle of friends and Mosrite Collectors. There is/was a writer for "Vintage Guitar" who did an article titled "Requiem for an Uncle" by the name of Willie Mosley. Willie is not related to Semie either. For one thing, their last names are spelled differently with Semie having an "e" in Mos e ley. But yeah, that's how Semie got the name "Uncle,"
close friends and collectors and admirers of the 'M' guitar.
The 1966 J.M. Doubleneck guitar I was referring to was actually the _J_oe _M_aphis Model Mosrite.
I'm guessing you thought I was referring to maybe a Jazzmaster? If so, sorry for the confusion.

p.s. Probably one of the most 'exposed' Doubleneck Mosrites was from the 70's Funk Group "The OHIO PLAYERS." The Lead Guitarist "Sugarfoot" unfortunately had the D. Neck stolen sometime in the early '80s. He played a Candy Apple red Joe Maphis Model. You can probably check them/him out on you tube. Another '60s player of the D.Neck Mosrite was the guitarist from"the Tremeloes" playing a song called "My Little Lady." Wink

Ed, the Candy Blue were "EXTREMELY RARE" on a J.M. Doubleneck Model.
The Candy Apple Reds, Pearl Whites were more common, with the Sunburst being the most popular........

This DEFINITELY BELONGS in this Thread! I think Terry got his start working under Semie's guidance when he was between 16-18 years of age.
