November Birthdays 
Here's a shot of Tone Boy(aka Ron Ryan) of The Mariners, taken earlier today.
Ron is smiling because he just finished laying down 11 rhythm guitar and 2 lead guitar tracks for The Mariners upcoming CD, Collision Course.
Unlike our first CD, this one will be mostly original material with a few interesting, obscure covers...except for one song.
Without going into a lengthy history lesson, The Mariners were formed in July, 1964 in Murfreesboro, Tennessee. We started out as, and still are a surf/instrumental rock band. Like many other guitarists of that era, we were heavily influenced by The Ventures, The Surfaris, The Chantays, The Pyramids and Davie Allan and the Arrows. Being 32 miles from Nashville, naturally Chet Atkins was also a guitar hero of ours. We had no idea who Dick Dale was aside from his appearances in a couple of the Beach Party movies. Dick didn't get any radio airplay in Tennessee back then!
The very first song we learned was Walk, Don't Run '64, which had just been released by The Ventures as a single and on their brand new "WDR Volume 2" album.
So, in recognition of the huge impact The Ventures had on us and so many other bands, plus their recent induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, we decided to include Walk Don't Run '64 on our new CD, played pretty much like we did back in 1964 when the Ventures' version was still getting top 40 airplay.
The CD should be ready for distribution this Summer. It will be quite a bit different - MUCH more intense and edgy - than the one we released in 2000.
