for the last 4 years I have been taking a lot of pictures at surf music shows, including my own, as well as others, all around the world
I thought, as a tip of the hat to Brian's 'Photo of the Day', that I would start a thread, and every week or thereabouts, I will drop a picture of mine in the thread
I will ID where and when I took the picture, of course
thought I'd call it, "HAND-PICKED PIX"
and all my shots are (c)2008 Unsteady Freddie///all rights reserved
here's the first in a continuing series (I promise to try and keep this current)
it's a shot I took of DANNY AMIS, a/k/a DADDY-O GRANDE, guitarist for LOS STRAITJACKETS (I have his permission to run this shot, no worries)
it was taken after a concert at RAM'S HEAD TAVERN in ANNAPOLIS, MARYLAND, for the 2005 Christmas Pageant Tour with Kaiser George and The World Famous Pontani Sisters
don't be surprised if the pictures, like this one, are somewhat, well...."unsteady"

DON WILSON taking a dump? did ya have to go there?
by the way this is not a shot I took in secret, as Danny knew and thought it would be funny to do so (there's another, this 1 is better); and recently I did ask his permission to run it
after a LOS ST-JAX show you can pretty much count on Danny as being the only band member who NEVER takes his mask off, which cracks me up
how tall is he? when, standing, or sitting? (sorry....); my guess is like under 6', maybe 5'10" ?? Pete and Eddie are taller
will post a new shot in a few days

OK, thx for all the comments on my first HAND-PICKED PIX -- good ol' DADDY-O GRANDE enjoying dinner after a performance
Here's the next one:
it's none other than DASH RIPROCK of the great band from Philadelphia, THE SHARKSKINS
www.myspace.com/thesharkskins
www.myspace.com/sharkskindashriprock
and, besides being an amazing guitarist, he is also a surfer -- and that's his neat sweet T-Bird as well!!
shot was taken during a break by the SHARKSKINS in a gig outdoors in a N.J. shopping center in 2005 (if my memory serves me)
dig it!

p.s. I decided at the last minute to throw in a close-up of DASH dashing off some deep reverb, UNSTEADY F.

OK it's time for another HAND-PICKED PIX
I found this shot of EDDIE ANGEL of LOS STRAITJACKETS playing at SOUTHPAW in Brooklyn, NY (2005)
But if you look a little closer, EDDIE is actually NOT playing his DiPinto....someone else is behind him supplying the twangin'
I know people know WHO it is playin' for EDDIE....
let's see how quick someone jumps in and says the right answer

I'm glad I'm as big as I am, no way anyone's getting behind me to play my instrument.

What's fun is putting your guitar on a lady and playing it from behind her... by playing "it" I meant the guitar!

A cool shot would be Deke and Eddie doing the double-neck Mosrite routine.
Next Doubleneck Trainwreck, I suppose.

here's another HAND-PICKED PIX, in fact 2 of them from the same live show --
it's from 2004, and it's Connecticut's very own, THE 9th WAVE, performing at a tavern in Mt. Vernon, NY (don't recall what the place was called)
shot #1 is the band, NEGATIVE ED (bass), OCEANA (Farfisa), MIKE "STACCATO" ROSADO (lead guitar), and oh yeah, a very dead guy
shot #2 is NEGATIVE DEAD, I mean, ED, and a very dead guy
after the show, the very dead guy told me he thought the band were really on their mark that night {I hear dead people}
