i don't think it's silly. i name my guitars. they all earn them, and sometimes it takes a while.
sonic blue tex mex strat is Yitzhak. but i just pronounce it 'isaac'. it came to me while, erm... in 'another place'
my mosrite hollowbody hath been dubbed 'excalibur' by my old bandmates.
my new blue japan mosrite is called 'firefly'. not sure why, but my best friend gave it that name. so there it is.
my silver p-bass is named 'Mjolnir', which is the name of thor's hammer.
my baritone tele doesn't have a name because it's not finished.

...maybe it's just me, but it seems this would fit better in the gear section...

I've wanted to name my guitars but I haven't come up with anything that sounds good.

I call one of mine "my little pooky wooky" and the other "my little smurfy wurfy".
Seriously, I can't bring myself to put a name on an inanimate object, unless I were to call them "money pit" and "wallet buster".

3. Rhonda-Acoustic(named after the Beach Boys song)
That's what I named my pink Squier Bullet Strat, but not much to do with the BB song title. My wife suggested it. Other instruments are simply "the Yamaha", "The SG", "The Mandolin", etc.
Runner-up name was "Jayne", as in Jayne Mansfield, but it didn't have enough syllables to suit me.

Well, it's rather simple here. The Stratocaster is called "Fender", "Strat" or "Stratocaster", the Fender Newporter is called "Fender", "Western" or "Acoustic" and the Ibanez RG 470 is called "Ibanez".
It is similar to our sailboat. Although named "Njörd" we simply call it "Boat" ;).

I named my silver Burns Marquee "Gort". I have it in my living room in a guitar stand in front of my HR Deluxe. It reminded me of the movie "The Day The Earth Stood Still" When I get home from work, there it is silently waiting for me to turn it on and make some noise. I have other guitars and basses but have never named any of the others

all of mine are just called the names they came with...I don't have any duplicate models so there's no confusion. However; all of their names do start with the word "The"...
they are called:
"The Fender Bass"
"The Fretless Fenandez Bass"
"The Surfmaster"
"The Jazzmaster"
"The DanoHodad"
"The DanoBass 6"
and
"The MandoBird"

Now my amplifiers...those have some crazy names...

None of mine have names.
I did have a black Epiphone 335 Lucille, which I 'sort of' called 'Lucille', but then I sold it very soon after, because it was 'Shit'.
I am tempted to name all of my guitars Gort though.
