Saw the Beach Boys last night at the Performing Arts Center in Santa Clarita, (College Of The Canyons).
It was Mike Love, Bruce Johnston, and some pretty hot younger musicians backing them up. Pretty good show. They surprised the hell out of me.
Bass player sounded just like Brian.
Billy
P.S. Almost got one of Mike Love's gold rings on his right hand when I reached out and gave him a high five.

sounds like you guys have a "thing" for hot younger musicians!
Just joking around of course...
I remember seeing Dick Dale open up for the Beach Boys several years ago up here in Konocti (Clear Lake, CA). It was cool seeing him on a big big stage like that. He then joined the beach boys for a couple of songs later in the evening... Tonally Awesome Dude!

Seems a weird concept - The Beach Boys without even a single Wilson brother...

I felt the same way at first. What? This show is gonna be like Dick Dale with no testicles, or Zep. without Bonham, or CCR without Fogerty, or, so on, and so on.
Brian's musical genius was still there in spirit. Mike Love just took the ball and ran with it.
Why not? It beats waitin' for a social security check to come in every month.................
I'd do the same damn thing. It was weird, but cool.

I just ask this question rhetorically, but why does there never seem to be much focus or interest in the story behind Bruce Johnston?
It seems that Brian got/gets all the critical acclaim historically and the overshadowing Mike Love gets the remainder of the rap.
Bruce has a true affinity for Hot Rod/Surf in his blood. Not only the BBs performances, but hes got the Bruce and Terry show, The Rip Chords and some early cool instro work under his belt. Not to mention great harmonies and great songwriting credits.
This guy has been a great wingman for The Beach Boys all his life, but IMHO he never gets the limelight credit he should for doing what hes done in his career. An unsung hero.
Thank you, Bruce Johnston!
Happy Easter!
Im off to do The Soupy Shuffle Stomp
