Permalink Modern Surf bands on Pandora

New Topic

Which modern Surf bands have made it on to Pandora.com?
For instance, The Eliminators have a "station".

I inputted Laika ATC, up came the Ventures, Dick Dale, MoAM, LSJ then into a bunch of noise and metal.

Danny Snyder

"With great reverb comes great responsibility" - Uncle Leo

I am now playing trumpet with Prince Buster tribute band 'Balzac'

Playing keys and guitar with Combo Tezeta

Formerly a guitarist in The TomorrowMen and Meshugga Beach Party

Latest surf project - Now That's What I Call SURF

It's funny you mention this....My brother has Pandora and we usually listen to it when I'm over at his house. Recently, we have noticed that their "surf" playlist now includes much more skater and agro-punk type stuff. Also, a lot of noise/metal with lyrics. We click on the "thumbs down" or "thumbs up" as appropriate.

I posted this in another thread, but when I listen to Pandora I start with the Penetrators, do a few thumbs up and thumbs downs, and soon it becomes a pure surf channel.

I don't know why ALL y'all aren't on Pandora. You just send 'em a CD, right?
No Slacktone? Confused
I have a Mermen radio station, and it feeds me all kinds of interesting stuff: DaiKaiJu, Mercury Program, Man or Astro Man, sort of a blend of Surf (some very traditional, Link Wray, etc) and Post Rock.
I thought if I started with Slacktone, Tomorrowmen, etc, it would get me a real modern surf station.

I created a channel called "Dick Dale", but if I don't stay on top of it, it wants to evolve to rockabilly. They are heavy on the "Legends of Surf" comp which is nice.

For modern, cuts from The Looney Tunes album, "Cool Surfin'" get played regularly.

Does it have to be an officially released physical cd? How many plays do I need to get my postage back?

I don't know what the details are, but on the Pandora site they ask for a CD. I assume they do their "DNA analysis" of it, and put it in rotation. I also assume they PAY ROYALTIES, as they've been complaining that they're paying higher royalties than FM Radio, and Satellite radio is compelled to.
Shouldn't be long before you get your postage back, and sell more CD's as well.

Pandora is a strange entity. First of all, one has to have an officially released physical CD that is available for sale on Amazon. Then, I believe it is one or two songs that you submit. They review these and send you an approval or denial message. There is much controversey over this process, as there doesn't appear to be any consistent rhyme or reason as to how they pick artists from what are submitted.Pandora is a strange entity.

I started a Mermen/MoAM station about 7 years ago and its my go to but I've also had to add Dick Dale so it would stay in a surf realm and not just give me post rock instrumentals. That being said after some work its a great station and I become fans of bands due to what I have heard on there.

I have a couple surf stations on mine, one is mostly first wave but has a tendancy to change to new age music after a while and a Bambi Molesters station that plays a lot more current bands.

A good friends band just recently got his band on Pandora. They're not signed but do have about 4 cd's. I'll see if I can find out the process from him and post what I find out

I posted the process above. It is also listed on the Pandora website. There is no magic to it. You release an album on the retail level. You submit your songs. They approve it or they don't.
