Hey, any BAUHAUS fans out there??? (The proto-Goth group, not the
art style.)
They just released a new album--the first one in 25 years. I listened
to snippets of it on Amazon.com or one of those websites, and as
much as a Bauhaus fan that I am, I cannot in all honesty say that
I was terribly impressed.
Kinda the way I feel about the later Iron Maiden albums.
(Speak of the devil! "The Clansman" by Maiden just came on my Windows
Media Player as I am typing this. . . .)
Anyway, Bauhaus has been MAJOR influences on my music (not the surf
stuff, obviously. . . although I actually DO have a Bauhaus/Joy Division-
inspired doom 'n' gloom tune with some "surf-like" parts in the middle. . .
but I'll spare you the pain and agony), and since so many others on
this forum seem to have rather eclectic tastes in music, I figured there
should be a few closet-Goths out there.
OH! And when, exactly, is BAUHAUS going to be inducted into the
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame??? (Seriously, though, when is JOY
DIVISION going to be inducted??? And The Cramps, for that matter???)

I love 'em too. "Press Eject and Give Me the Tape" is a fantastic live album and I also really dig "The Sky's Gone Out!"
Just to name-drop a bit: David J lives in San Diego (North County) and his son works for my friend. That makes me and David J best friends!

I haven't heard any earlier stuff aside from Bela Lugosi's dead (which is pretty cool) but I listened to the new album and it's absolutely terrible throughout. Reminds me The Stooges - The Weirdness in its legendary-band-gives-it-another-shot-but-should-really-just-leave-it-alone-ness

I've always found half of their stuff is great and half noise...>>.
Daniel Ash lives in Ojai now, my friend is a friend of his, that makes him my friend. He has a new studio downtown Ojai, Bauhaus probably recorded the new CD there. Hard to imagine doing Goth in Ojai, maybe that was the problem.

Where is Ojai? Is that in California?

What, really?
That's funny how so many British celebs now reside full-time in the U.S.
including several members of Iron Maiden--Nicko McBrain lives in
Florida, I think, and Dave Murray lives in Hawaii. I could be completely
wrong, but doesn't David Bowie live over here, too? I'm sure there
are tons of others. . . .

Yes, Ojai is in the hills about 30 minutes North of Ventura (inland, not on the coast), which is on the coast about an hour NW of Los Angeles. A very peaceful, artsy and spiritual (as in Krisnamurti) community. Not Goth at all.

Tax reasons, probably.

I just found out that Bauhaus did indeed record the CD in Ojai at Ashe's studio. Lonesome Dave of Savoy Brown and Foghat operated a furniture store in Ventura until his recent death. Dave Mason and Jackie Lomax also live in Ojai, I think Albert Lee is around here too. Julie Christie, also in Ojai.
