What's the 'etymology' of the -O-Rama 'suffix'? My mind is blanking and I feel like I should know the answer.

Sorry - a bit off topic, but an interesting question. I think probably panorama, but probably via some intermediary, which may have been you actual question. For 309k candidates, Google *o-rama. Anyone have any more specific ideas?

What a great night for surf music! The highlight for me was just being in the same room with Eddie Bertrand, Paul Johnson, Jim Fuller, John Blair, Dave Wronski, Tim Fitzpatrick and all those other great musicians. I didn't get to meet a lot of you though. I think we need a pin or a button to identify a person as an SG101er, like the Freemasons. It would be less conspicuous than the T-shirts but you would still know who to give the secret handshake to.

The highlight for me had to be when Eddie did his 3 songs with the Eliminators. It sounded great and Eddie is a true showman.

I missed my chance Saturday, but Happy Birthday Dragonfly!

Well shoot, I think I was dancin next to you with Billy at some point... Haha.. How fun was that!

This was one great show! Definately worth the 8 hour drive to get there.
It was great to meet many of you there, and if I had the outgoing qualities of Dave Arnson, I would have met you all ( I am a bit shy )
The bands were all fantastic, and the guys (and gals) in them were just great to hang out with.
I think the only low point for me was when Jenny-O asked me to dance, and found out that I cannot dance at all. Sorry about your feet Jenny.
LOL

I look forward to bringing my band down in June, and hope you all show up for it.

A few comments on Surf-o-Rama. It's been a hard winter up here, so I really looked forward to a little SoCal R&R and surf music last weekend. While the sunny weather was limited, the surf music sure wasn't! Several new groups I hadn't seen before... enjoyed Surf City with the horn section, the Sand Devils were tight and strong, if a bit repetitious in overall sound, and the real surprise was Outer Wave. Way cool!

I also enjoyed the fact that surf bands are back to 4-piece and larger, instead of the plethora of trios over the past years. Yeah, I know it's my rant, but surf music really comes alive with rhythm guitar, and I like horns now and then for appropriate punctuation, as well as the connection back to the R&B roots of surf music.

Good to see the Surfaris again, Paul is just the best. Also great to see Eddie Bertrand, hope he gets his own group together. The best part of geezerhood is great players of the past coming back to play great music. Check out a guitar store (Jim's in Irvine comes to mind), lots of grey hairs buying guitars ("I used to have a Les Paul") after ordering their Harleys.

I did feel there was a lack of energy both on stage and the audience through the day, at least compared to other surf gigs I've attended. This was most apparent when Dave Wronski hit the stage. The whole atmosphere was jacked up 100% when he started playing. Well, hell, how do you go nuts all day, guess we were all saving it up for the finale.

Anyway, happy birthday Linda, and thanks to all who put the day together, and thanks to all the bands for participating. All in all, a great day. Hope we have more of 'em.

So what did everyone think? What were the highlights?

First things first, I think JR did a fantastic job of putting things together. The night flowed seemingly smooth and no complications due to a lot of great teamwork.

I cant compare this to other gigs as I've only been to a couple but I had a great time. My daughter and her boyfriend came and I thought they left early but found them at the end of the show still diggin the bands. A few other buddies were there too and they really liked it. So I think the gig did well overall in creating new converts.

I only wish I had time to hang, talk to and get to know people more. Sometimes I would be introduced to someone and then bam! I had to rush off to my next task, so I really missed a lot of the evening. Hope I didnt seem rude. After Eddies set I collapsed from exhaustion so I missed Outerwave and Wronski. Major Bummer!

Can't wait for another show or the HBISM concerts to start so this was a great appetizer for things to come. Yeah! to Linda and JR for putting these shows together. It's a lot of work.

HA! I was talking to him when you walked up! Razz

OK, due to some personal obligations, I wasn't able to attend until much later, so I walked in as the Sand Devils were playing. I thought they sounded great in that room. It's been a while since I've seen them play, and that was at the Whistle Stop (where my ears usually bleed unless I have ear plugs). It was great to see them again.
I also liked watching Eddie play! He was having fun with it and as much as i like to watch/listen to him play, it was great to see him having a good time.
OUTERWAVE--I love you...keep doing what you do.
