I don't really hate humbucking pickups, I just don't like them, I actually have a Les Paul(HUH!?) But oddly enough I got it because it came with P90s and I thought, man this sounds better than any Les Paul I've played, an dit is because of the pickups.
.
I'm with ya on the P90s.
Greatest non-fender pickups ever.
If you want real frustration, try playing a Surf gig with an Anniversary equipped with a single hi-low tron.
Haha I had a '67 Single Anni with the neck pickup, and no Bigsby. It's now a '65 Bandmaster.
That's a good plan idea, mind if I copy you?

I currently own a 120th Anniversary 6118. It has the Bamboo Yellow/Copper Mist paint job. Hands down my favorite guitar to play but I would never play it in a surf situation. It has two TV Jones Filtertrons by the way.

Man, aint nothing wrong with a good Gretsch,
You gotta get one made on a Tuesday though.
Especially the vintage ones, we call em Tuesday Gretsch's.
They seem to vary so much in sound and playability that we came up with this theory:
Monday-to hung over from the weekend=bad Gretsch's
Tuesday-ok back in the swing of the work week= Great Gretsch's
Wednesday -humpday, slacking off=bad Gretsch's
Thursday-hell, practically Friday=bad Gretsch's
Friday-it is the weekend, party time!=bad Gretsch's
I've got a buddy with a 55 Duo Jet, dynasonics, man it screams!
Definitely a Tuesday model.

First off Dr. Pluto, do you mind telling us what band you are in?
2nd I don't know if you and Ace are aware of the Insect Surfers.
the 2 guitarists uses Gibsons instead of Fenders. Dan uses a Flying V
with Humbuckers. Whil eDave the Founder of the band uses an Old Gibson SG with single coil pick ups and a tremelo. But they are kinda hard to find, and expensive if you do find them.
But As ace stated, they could be used for pushing the envelope of the surf sound. And that's what the Insects Do. Check out their web site and
maybe you can see the guitars and hear some tunes.

p.s. no I'm not in the band, they are just my favorite surf band

My 6120 was made on a Friday in Japan of all places. I think it's a 1999 and it's literally entombed in poly. It was unbelievable how much more alive my '67 was compared to the '99.

No band now I live in a very small, very shitty part of North Carolina while I am finishing school. I had my first surf band last fall after many years of conviencing my friends, and were tight and kinda different I think. I had some hookups with another band to start touring with them around the Southeast and their manager wanted to start getting us different gigs, but alas good ol' laziness took over. I guess the music wasn't exciting to them b/c it didn't contain dumbass emo lyrics and a million stupid bass solos. A fucking bass solo???? Unless you're Flea I don't want to hear your bass solo. I'm gonna try and up some stuff to myspace or something soon. I'd like to get you guy's opinons.
Oh, and the insect surfers are my favorite surf band. Do you have any of their albums? I have like 2. They don't even sell many of them anymore. If anyone has any please pm me. I'll pay money for the freakin' copies.

I'm sure Dave wouldn't have a problem with people videoing the Insects and posting it. I just don't have a cam corder, and the place they played was pretty tiny( with dancers infornt of the stage) ( could have knocked or blocked the video)and the place was packed, so aduio would have been
very muffled/noisy. The Insects 20th anniversary as a west coast version band is comming up. I think they have a live cd in the works.
I'll mention to Dave about possibly doin a video too.

Humbuckers??
Being studio cats (The Lost Boys...) we don't care how things "look". When doing layered guitar parts for a track, the humbucking guitar can add some spice to the stew. A humbucking guitar can be a useful part of your arsenal if you're talking about recording.
A good thing to have on a humbucking guitar is a coil tap switch. The Carvin AE185-12 that we use has humbuckers, but the coil tap lets us get single coil sounds from those 'buckers. The dirty guitar on the Cinnamon Girl track on the Cordelia Records "Beyond The Sea" CD was from the AE185-12 in 'bucker mode. The 2nd verse melody on our version of "The Disadvantages Of You" (available here: http://cordelia.stayfree.co.uk/Pages/Beyond%20the%20Sea.htm ) was played by this same guitar, but in sgl-coil mode instead. Versatile!
