I need some feedback on what Fuzz pedal to go for I need something with as close to the originals in Fuzz in a good price range.
The all-out coolest true Fuzz ever is the 2 knob Colorsound Tone Bender MKII 2 in my opinion...like a Fuzz Face on steroids but you can dial it down to "reasonable" levels too.
I guess it's all in the ear of the beholder. I tried a few real Tone Benders and lots of clones... I found them to be really "unadjustable" You could turn your volume knob down to tame it, but otherwise not very subtle. A one trick pony. A really great trick, and I'm considering this http://www.buildyourownclone.com/tonebender.html since it's a great tone and one of the easiest builds out there in terms of number of parts and layout. You don't want to see the parts list on a Big Muff!!! But since I've never built before those Fuzzrites for $109 are sounding pretty good

I'm pretty-much a noob when it comes to surf gear but I'm a self-proclaimed expert on everything Fuzz!
Which "original" are you looking for? Something Germanium (Fuzz Face, etc) or a really nasty Silicon Fuzz?

Yeah man talk about surf gear I'm so there but when it comes to pedals nop nop nop not my bag.
I'm talking about Fuzz that sounds like it's from 1965 through 1969 from the hardcore era of garage.
What do you guys think about the original and reissue "Fender Blender" I was also checking them out any thoughts?

What about the Vox Tone bender?

Blenders are about as "dirty" as they come if you turn them to 11. The Octave side is pretty cool too. Hey, go to youtube. You won't find everything there, but enter the names of the pedals you're thinking of. Most of them will be represented with a demo by the maker or an owner.

Excellent idea I'll go do that and see what I can find on youtube or if someone comes across a groovy Fuzz demo please post it

I'm gonna step up and vouch for the Verbafuzz.
I have an e-mail address for Derick, the maker, if you (or anyone, for that matter) wants to try to get a hold of him to see if he has any left. I know I had to search a bit for him when I bought mine.
Also, a friend told me there is a guy who is releasing his own clone of the Burns Buzzaround. He calls his company "Dice Works" (jeez, Kyle -- sounds like these manufacturers are RIGHT up your alley...). You can get his e-mail address from Harmony Central reviews of his pedals, as it seems he doesn't have a webby presence.

The 60s garage era had more or less ended by 1967 but if you're looking for the typical '66 teen garage sound, I would recommend something like a Maestro Fuzz-Tone over a Fuzzrite/Fuzzbrite.

Well, besides the Addrock Fuzz and the Ashbass, are there any other units
out there with the Germanium?

I just went to the fulltone site to check which othe rpedals had germaniums as well, and Fulltone now has a notice with all the germanium based pdakls, that they are NO LONGER AVAILABLE due to unavailabilty of decent germanium transistors. Of course fulltone will need to buy larger batches than real small boutique builders, so thos emight still be building germanim fuzzes for a while, but most likly they'll run out in a while and prices will start rising. just thought Id mention it: now's the time to pick one up.

I think there are a bunch of those reissue Fender Blenders turning up used...for whatever that means. I don't think you'd be into it either for the sound you want...unless you're going for a Smashing Pumpkins tone now. It has a ton of gain and sustain. I think Guitar Crazy in Portland was blowing the new ones out...I don't know if they still have them.
The Tonebenders are great (the 2 knob TB MKII is maybe my fave Fuzz of all) but again, I don't think it'll nail those trebley buzzsaw tones you might be looking for. I've got one you can try out though to see (a two knob and three knob bender).
If the talk about Germanium transistors starting to get scarce it true it might be a good time to pick up a Fuzz Face clone and/or any Tonebender circuits you might be wanting.
I think every Fuzz fan should have a good Arbiter Fuzz Face clone, a Tonebender of some variety, and a Rangemaster in their collection...although all are Fuzzes of the Euro variety and probably aren't exactly what you want for that American Garage tone.

OK, I'm reading everybody's responses, but for me,
I'm gonna keep chasing the FUZZrite on E-Bay which BTW, I'm
still winning, but that can change in a blink of an eye

If they used Mosrites then maybe they used a Mosrite Fuzzrite? and would the Ashbass Fuzzbrite be the ticket or something close or similar to it?

Does ANYONE have a pic of them playing those "Surfboards?"
I've seen the 3 sell on E-Bay a little less than 2 years ago, which
sold for around $53,000!! BUT, I've NEVER seen a pic of them or
on YOU TUBE playing them. I've only seen them with "other in-
struments."

I have an original Maestro Fuzztone Fz-1A. Sometimes I think it sounds great, other times I think it's horrible- very tempermental, doesn't really work when it's cold, very unreliable and it's sound is very dependent on which guitar you use it with. It is perfect for a no sustain-broken speaker type of sound though (think "Satisfaction", "Psychotic Reaction"). A few years ago I built a Tone Bender MKII clone and it sounded great, a very spitting fuzz sound, It sounded exactly like late Yardbirds/early Zeppelin, unfortunately it's now out of commission. I have and Ashbass Fuzzbrite that I've been using live, and I'm quite pleased with it, and it really nails that Iron Butterfly (Fuzzrite) sound.

Okay Dice. Now that we have an example of a song to work with, I took out the tweak fuzz, my Jag, and a few other pedals to see what I could do. I can get that sound with the tweak and my Jag, but I needed both pickups on. The jazzmaster could easily do it on the bridge only, but there was too much articulation with the jag with bridge only. Individual notes as opposed to that uninterupted stream of music. Also it sounded better to me through the AC30 than the Twin. But you know what sounded suprisingly good with all 4 four guitars I tried it with... A Boss DS1 I know... Even people who have no idea what true bypass is, or why it's "better" than buffered newage (rhymes with sewage) pedals, only want true bypass, but I'm just carryin' the news to ya'. Based on the DS1 I would definitely give the Boss Fuzz a test drive too... Just don't let the vintage nazis catch you with either. Maybe mount the guts in a wooden box, lacquered to look like a "woodie"?
The good news is, you can find boss DS1 and Fuzz at any guitar store to try out, and you can get the DS1 for $39 just about anywhere. I've had mine since around '81 had to replace the battery connector twice because I never invested in a wall wart. It should also be easy to find a Seymour Duncan Tweak fuzz to demo at a Seymour dealer. Just make sure you bring one of your jags...
But I gotta reiterate, I find little value in trying to match a specific tone exactly. As I've already stated I'd rather have a versatile pedal than a one trick pony. When I say I got the tone your looking for, I had to find it, using the knobs on the pedals and the amps. Sometimes it's counter-intuitive. Like turning down the gain and turing up the level when you'd expect the opposite. It can take time. I enjoy that process personally. If you don't by all means go for the vintage single tone style pedal. Nothing wrong with that approach, it's just more expensive when you decide you wanna whip out Link, or ZZTop, when your bass player is too drunk to remember your songs and the second guitar hasn't shown, and you need to fill some time... Somebody tried to sell me an expensive boutique pedal based on a certain tone. Even though I love that tone, I had to laugh it off. How useful would a "Cazy Horse" be in the long run Rock and Roll will NEVER Die

Why not a Fuzz-Face?
Sorry if this has been answered but I didn't read the whole thread....
By the way I have no experience with fuzz stompboxes, just asking.
