The Aquasonics ruled that night.

The Aquasonics may Rule the Night, but I've heard persistant rumors that the (late, great) Orangutones kicked ass. The name was definitely cool. I remember seeing it on the board and thinking "Now that sounds like a good band."

Hey, it's the Skylark Lounge, too. How did you all fit on that stage? The sax players were over in the first booth on the left past the piano, right?

Just rumors, my friend! Actually it's pretty hard to mess up too badly if you're just playing 30 or 40 variations of "Louie Louie". ;)

It was always a gigantic hassle to get 6 of us up there, especially once we added the organ. That night, we had 7!

Lots of bruised elbows.

Thanks for the kind compliment!

Garrett fell off his amp that night - he was surfin' the amp, and rocking around, and fell off backwards! I thought he was dead....but he got right back up and kept playing - I think the guitar was even in tune.

Surf Rockets at the HB museum.

Be careful following the masses. Sometimes the "M" is silent...........................

I have always said that we may have the best gig a surf band could possibly have....and it's just a beautiful location....AND they pay us too!! During the summer, the sun is setting right behind us so we get the benifit of everyone looking right at us!! Or are they looking thru us? Last Sunday there was this little kid...maybe 10 or 11 yrs old, standing right next to me playing "air" guitar and mimicking my every move!! It was a classic moment......the crowd loved it.....he did that for TWO SETS!! It was disturbing after awhile....nah, the band loved it and he got a TakeOffs guitar pick and i'm sending him a TO's CD. I asked him "are you gonna be a surf guitar player in a few years?" he said..."heck i don't know"!!! I thought that was a great answer to a dumb ass question by an older guy!!
We don't play inside anymore.......we're outside...rain or shine, and it has rained a few times forcing us to come up with an evacuation plan. Our bass player John, has an $18,000 Fender bass and when it starts to sprinkle...he's unplugged and outa there.......!! Can't blame him. My guitar isn't worth much.....maybe to Dick Dale but......so i take a little longer to bail. I love this thread...AND SG101!!
Aloha you surf dogs,

I haven't played guitar for a few years now. But my son who I'm so damn proud of... Here he is at the Hard Rock in Newport Beach with his new Carl Thompson "Claypool" bass. Over 12 kinds of wood and a cat's-eye ingrain.

The bass is courtesy of Make-a-Wish, the most coolest organization. Allen was also befriended by Carl and his hero Les Claypool and visited them many times, getting a few tips on the way.

Geez, here we go again..... Rolling Eyes

I'm not saying that it is not a very nice bass.
its gorgeous.
just that it is everything a Surf bassist is not looking for.
Fretless, Tremelo bar, active pickups. natural wood, most surf guitars, basses are painted. etc etc...

whats with the name calling?

Peace guys..likely this is a misunderstanding and timing situation. The young man is happy and proud of his guitar and the given situation makes the picture very touching and loving. If a bassist from a surf group had it hanging around his neck, it might have been more appropriate to make the observation....just poor timing but obvious nothing cruel was intended.
