I mixed Jerry Lee for a corporate event a couple years ago. He had dental problems, sounded like they forgot to remove the cotton, played for 20 minuets and collected 25 grand. Poor guy.

I'm pretty sure I could have sang that Amy Winehouse tune if I had the band that played on the disc - it's all the band, not her. Any girl that's smoked for the last 5 years could do it -

I don't know, I think she's alright but not nearly as good as her backing band's OTHER singer Sharon Jones, who ALSO had a new album out last year which got plenty of attention from other publications

Actually, this pic isn't too bad, but when they first focused on Jerry up close, he scared the crap out of me! Shocked

yeah, Jerry keeps getting scarier and scarier...what is he, like 107 years old now? Amazingly, his voice is still pretty decent for someone who's been around since the last Ice Age...

Yes, yes, YES! I don't have the album (yet) but what I've heard from Sharon Jones is the STUFF!

Swing! Twang! Shake! Twist!

Here is a list of artists that have never won a grammy.
Led Zepplin
Neil Young
Jimmy Hendrix
The Beach Boys
The Who
Allman Brothers Band
Creedence Clearwater Revival
The Grateful Dead
Queen
Diana Ross
2Pac
David Bowie
The Doors
Bob Marley
50 Cents
The Byrds

Also, largely ignored are Bob Dylan, James Brown, Maddona, and The Rolling Stones.

Conclusion: Grammys = meaningless.

...Dick Dale was nominated for a Grammy back in 1986 for that one tune he played with Stevie Ray Vaughn (Pipeline)...they didn't win though...

...The Who...

Townshend did win a Grammy (1993) for the Broadway musical "The Who's Tommy"

but, your point is well taken...for the most part, the Grammy's are pretty lame Rolling Eyes

Amazingly enough, he's only 73. He's just seen some rough years.

I put it on, watched a few minutes,
somebody called and I missed about 10 or 15 min. of it.

went to commercial, and I switched to a PBS documentary about how Hawaii was made by Volcanos and how its deteriorating.

never went back to the Grammys.

The Nokester will be 73 sometime in March, but he too has slowed down. However, he looks alot healthier than Jerry.......

Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings are absolutely amazing - the albums are great, but if they come anywhere near you do not miss them! I've been to few shows with more energy and enthusiasm from the band and the crowd - she's the real deal (though I like Amy Winehouse a lot too)

I flipped to the Grammy's on for a few minutes a couple of times. I got to see the Time. They still sounded wayyyy better than most of the R&B stuff out there now (I don't know why they call the stuff out now R&B as it's generally neither). When the Umbrella girl came out in the middle of "Jungle Love" I turned it off.

Next flip was when Tina Turner was on, and boy was she ON! Too bad Beyonce tried to sing with Tina. It just reinforced how mediocre a singer she is. Bad career move for her.

Too bad Feist didn't win (missed her performance, but she is marvellous). I too would rather hear Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings than Amy Winehouse. Oh well.

Nice to see Herbie Hancock won album of the year. I haven't heard it, but he is indeed a stellar musician, and it is a tribute to Canadian Joni Mitchell.

The Grammy show I wanna see broadcast is the one that is done before the televised version. Can you imagine the classical, jazz, native, latino, spoken word, etc show with the announcer just announcing the Rap, Pop, Rock, etc award winners given out before the broadcast. Oh well, that's my fantasy world!

Mediocre TV...I think it's gettin' worst! More time for music listening and playing!

Agree

All of her albums are definitely worth picking up, and DO NOT miss the live show.

That Herbie Hancock album is dull, dull, dull, dull, dull. But then again I can't stand Joni Mitchell's songwriting, so I'm sure that's partly why.

-Warren

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

I think the Dap-Kings are the reason Amy Winehouse sounds even remotely ok.

I saw a clip of Amy's performance last night on TV today - and it wasn't overly good. I will admit that "Rehab" has a cool sound, and it's pretty catchy. I've heard Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, and thats the real deal.

It's kinda like if you heard " Pat Boone sing "Ain't That A Shame" and then heard Fats Dominoes version.

"You can't tell where you're going if you don't know where you've been"

i figured the grammys would be a horrible rapfest, but i enjoyed a few of the performances...

Morris day... YEAH! i love morris.. and he rocked... i HATE when they interupt a good song to have another song in the middle of it.. wtf is that? and whats up with the umbrellas? but morris rocked:)

Tina Turner... shes what... 65+? holy hell man.. awesome job on proud mary still.. Plus, she was on like 6" pencil thin stiletto's... my mom is her age and and barely walk. Wish they woulda just let her play without the chick that sang with her...

Enjoyed the hell outa kid rock doing louis prima.. he did a damn find job i thought...

I HATE fogerty.. like to the point i would consider death or listening to celine dion first... and seeing jerry lee lewis.. man.. some people should fade away and let the legacy live... and although little richard looked nervous, i thought his voice still was passable...specially with lewis next to him..

P.S... i never heard winehouse before... and i don't get how she has this "amazing" voice... anyone that says that never heard fiona apples voice? 10x the talent.. (and wow i feel gay saying that)
And thank god for DVR's... flipped to the performances, don't really care bout what band i will never hear of again won what:)

I wanna play just like him when i grow up...

Kid Rock > John Fogerty?!?!

Help I'm going to have to wholeheartedly disagree.

Science friction burns my fingers.

With that, The Eagles, minus Joe Walsh joined him on stages & reminded everyone what good music sounds like.
