So, I am digging through my box of tubes when replacing a tube in my reverb unit when I come across two JJ Tubes that I don't know what they a compatible with (application wise).
So, hoping the gurus here can help me out.
The tubes are a:
JJ ECC83 S
JJ ECC81
thanks in advance.

Those are the British numbers for 12AX7 and 12 AT7 respectively. The 'S' denotes that the ECC83 is a copy of the Telefunken frame grid design.

ECC83 is equivalent to: 12AX7 or 7025
ECC81 is equivalent to: 12AT7

there won't be a difference. they are the same tube, just labeled differently.

You'd be surprised. There was a huge difference when I switch to a NOS 12AT7 from the standard Groove Tubes in my RI Tank. Took off some of the high end bite that was really annoying.

yeah, there are definite tonal differences between brands, but as far as a JJ 12AX7 compared to a JJ ECC83 there will no no difference at all.
for the best tone, go with vintage GE tubes...those are the best!

Yeah, but it is getting harder to find relieable sources for the vintage ones. Sucks when you get a tube and it is dead in the box.
I was switching brands in my tank. It still had the Fender stock GT tubes in it. Seeing if it would smooth things out when the OD is kicked in.
Seems to be working alright now, but gotta get it to stage volume to really see. Just don't think the neighbors would care too much for that right now.

JJ's are the way to go for vintage tone!!! besides NOS but I have learned my lesson with using NOS they are never that reliable especially when you need them the most at a "Gig" F$^###@$#@# that $hit
