Permalink Scale length - Mustangs, Musicmasters, and DuoSonics

New Topic

I see a lot of references to different scale lengths for Mustangs, Musicmasters, and DuoSonics....two in particular...the 24" and a 22" (or thereabouts). Are the bodies set up so that they can accept either scale length? In other words, if you have an old Mustang or DuoSonic body, can you find a neck in either of these scale lengths and expect the bridge position to work with both? Thnx.

No I think there were specific model variations within those families of guitars. I recall reading there were both 22" and 24" DuoSonics, for example. I think you'd have to match up a 22" neck with one that was made specifically for that. There was lots of good info on this in the Fender Forum a few years ago. I also recall a few fan pages devoted just to the Bronco, DuoSonic, and MusicMaster guitars.

Here's probably the most complete Duo-Sonic/Musicmaster site out there:

Thanks...yea, I was reading through that stuff and some other sites too. It's tough to tell from what I've been reading whether or not Fender compensated things somehow so that the 22" and 24" scale necks both fit the same body and bridge position..sort of like what Warmoth does with their conversion scale necks. I've got a modded DuoSonic body (late 50s/early 60s) which, according to what I've read, was probably originally set up for a 22" scale. I've also got a MusicMaster neck which I know is 24" scale because it matches up with my Mustang and Jaguar necks. Now I just need to see if this neck will work on this body. If not, I've got two projects Wink
