I was wondering if there was an archive of Photos of the Day, complete with comments?
As someone who doesn't log on everyday it would be great to see which photos I've missed and also see the comments. For example the Los Straitjackets and Dipinto discussion was pretty interesting from what I saw, but who got the last say? Some of these discussions could also keep going if topical enough.
The photos could also go towards a gallery of SG101 bands.
Cheers

yeah I was wondering this too,
I clicked on the photos area.
and all that was there was the pics Brian or his wife had taken at shows.
would be nice to see all the POTD pics,
and even have a download pics for not POTD
like yahoo groups had.
or would that take up too much bandwith?
maybe we could have a photo area,
but people could post links to their photobucket or other accounts with surf band pics.

Let me cook something up. My host is getting kind of cranky with me as it is. We may have to upgrade our server package.

Well, I geuss I liked the initial idea of having access to the photos & comments. Maybe not to post additional comments, but just to view.

Hi Brian,
I think having mainly having access to the Photo of the Day and comments. Just knowing of these bands then allows people to follow them up using generic search engines. I think it would also be good to allow comments to be made after the Day. Some photos will generate plenty of discussion and debate, others maybe only on the day they are posted.

there's another upside when discussions follow, and that is that international members who are ahead of you timewise (that would be me) mis half the discussion.

Just thinking out loud here. The purpose of POTD was to show an "interesting" photo every day to keep people interested in the site. Comments were added as an afterthought, almost. If people can comment at any time, how will people know there is a discussion going on? Serious discussion should be saved for the forums. I still see the merit in being able to view previous photos however.

It is possible to look at old pictures of the day.
If they are open to look at all the time the POTD would lose it's appeal to me. I stop by every night around 9 just to see what the new picture is.

I agree with WR. Due to time zones some people may see the photo but not get to see some of the comments or any interesting debate. Not everyone would get to see every POTD. Reminds me of the Lemonheads song Outdoor Type (not surf-sorry), "I cant go with you on a rock climbing weekend, what if somethings on tv (SG101) and is never shown again" . I don't think having an archive of POTD and comments would de-value the POTD.
Cheers

I think I have this sentiment too, though. otherwise it is just a surfrelated photobucket.
