A big thanks to everyone that came out to Hot Rod Hula Hop 3!!! Ivan, you guys tore it up as usual. It is always a blast to see the Madeira live. When you guys went into 'Sandstorm' at the end, Ahu practically lept over me to get to the stage (and I'm over 6'6"). Great to see you again and can't wait to hear more of the new stuff!

As mentioned, the Coffin Daggers are incredible to see as well. Big fan of the band and, as Jon mentioned, great people to talk with. Love the CD they put out on Urko and picked up their demo at the event (which they hope to turn into another full-length soon). The video they project behind them when they play is great fun too.

Daikaiju was definitely a jaw-dropper. The did get on a little late, but alot of people did stick around, and man when they got on stage, they put on an incredible show. Would love to see them again!

Jon- good to meet you too. Sorry I could not talk longer...but as you saw, I was running around a little frantically. Good to see you too Guy (if there was a surf show and I did not see you in the audience...I would simply not know what to do).

Hope to have some pics available soon.

Whoa...this is long overdue, but the photos from last summer's Hula Hop are now available at:

Unfortunately, there very few photos of the Madeira from last year. Our frisky photographer ran outside as Ivan & the boys were setting up to take pictures of a gal that was doing a pyro act in the parking lot. Rather than come back in, he hung around out there with hopes of getting her phone number. Let's just say he was equally sucessful at getting the number as he was Madeira photos.

I'll be looking forward to Hot Rod Hula Hop 4! If I have to, I'll take a vacation day, and unlike last summer I don't have to "play Army" that weekend. Plus, I don't think very many high schools have 21 year class reunions, which my 20 year reunion was also on the same weekend.

It's probably a good thing I wasn't able to attend Hot Rod Hula Hop III, since I was driving my 1980 Ford Pinto wagon that weekend, which ended up having a mechanical failure (lower left ball joint went kaput), on my way to my class reunion. I'd just made a 120 mile round trip (to and from my armory), that Saturday, with 55 MPH and 70 MPH being posted speeds for two of the roads that I normally travel for that (Indiana State Road 44 & Interstate 74 west). The ball joint broke on me when I was in town, at 30 MPH, so I got quite lucky, there. Things could've gotten fairly ugly, had I been traveling SR-44 or I-74 (or even I-70 east or west, had I been able to do HRHH3), and the Pinto would've gone to the nearest junkyard to where I would've crashed.

The Pinto is nearly ready for distance travel, again; needing new tires, and the carburetor timing set back a tad. Otherwise, things are looking good, for me attending HRHH4, this summer!

I will also be there.
