Permalink Newest Ibanez Jet Kings

New Topic

The new Ibanez JTK4 Jet King, with a Bigsby B5 vibrato, looks like it might have some potential. Swap some Fralin split-singles or Duncan Phat Cats in place of the stock humbuckers, and maybe it'd be a good surf guitar, or maybe surf and rockabilly. Then again, it looks like the Ibanez JTK3 Jet King has single coils, which for me would be nice to buy the JTK4 but with JTK3 pickups.

Of course something like this would be outright G.A.S., for me, since I've pretty much got every tonal possibility covered with my guitar/amp collection, with the exception of lap steel and 12-string electric. Right now, I'm looking for another "ninety-nine dollar wonder guitar" (other than my Epiphone Les Paul Jr. 90 and Squier Bullet Special, as both are out of production) to use as a travel guitar, paired with my lil' Vox DA5 amp. Once I find a good travel guitar, I'll get back to my normal G.A.S. Razz Cool Rolling Eyes

There's also a signature model from somebody in a band called "The Mars Volta" Hmmm Never heard of them or him, but hey I'm old... It's a jet king with that same nasty ass tailpiece as the "3" but it's got a 24 inch scale!!!! Full on stage guitar though, one stacked bridge humbucker, you know size of a single coil, bite of a humbucker Laughing , and one volume knob. Look at the JTK3 in turqoise! Shocked http://www.ibanez.co.jp/products/eg_page2008.php?area_id=3&data_id=1259&color=CL01&year=2008&cat_id=1&series_id=57 NICE!!!

I don't know why, but I think they look ok. I like the green, I mean turquoise. Laughing

But with that tail piece it would take foreve to change a string. I would quess.
Not my idea of a stage guitar as far as string changes goes.
I can't speak for the quality of their sound or construction or sound, or sound that is, but they look ok in the pictures. Wink

Ive seen one in a local store, and 'in the flesh' it looks really really cheap and not very well built, it actually looks a bit plastic, like a the guitar that comes with "guitarhero"

Once again to me that's a good thing... How it feels and plays is what matters... I don't think the 3s and 4s are out yet here in the US. I look foward to touching one.

I'd definitely be interested in how the new crop of Jet Kings compares to my sunburst JTK2. I'm thinking that the pickups in the JTK4 are the same ones that my JTK2 has. I also noticed that the JTK4 don't have coil tap switches, which were available on the JTK2 Jet Kings. It's too bad that there's only 2 colors available to the U.S. market, for the JTK3.

I just can't get behind the taking out the humbuckers and replacing them with single coils to make a surf guitar idea. Buy something that has single coils already.

Sure, an ES-335 would be a perfect surf guitar if it just had the right pickups. It's like somebody taking a Jazzmaster and sticking humbuckers in it. It just ain't right.
