I just recently picked up there album "Grab Your Board" and like it a lot. They sound agressive, heavy reverb, and have a good groove.
Does anyone know anything about this band or if they have any other albums.

I like their stuff. The take on Moon Over Marin is nice. As you probably know, but in case others are interested, they have a MySpace page at http://www.myspace.com/thetormentos and also a FotoLog Web site. The MySpace site mentions some other releases (sound hard to get) and says
There's some generally favorable discussion of them on the Forum that you can search for. |

I like 'em a lot--great sound, great songs, great artwork. Their split with the Phantom Surfers is almost as good as "Grab Your Board." -Warren —That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it. |

I BELIEVE THE TORMENTOS ARE SOME OF THE BEST SURF OUT THERE RIGHT NOW. THE COVER OF THE ASTRONAUTS "SURF PARTY" IS SWEET. GREAT JOB. ALSO I LIKE THE ALTERNATE TAKE OF "TORMENTOS" WITH THE LOUNGE SINGER VOCALS. AND I AM AGAINST THE USE OF VOCALS IN SURF MUSIC! I FEEL "GRAB YOUR BOARD" IS BETTER THAN THE "GO!" SPLIT BUT MAINLY CAUSE THE PHANTOM SURFERS JUST COMPILED A LIST OF STUFF THAT HAD ALREADY BEEN RELEASED ON A SLEW OF 7" RECORDS. WITH THE EXCEPTIONS OF "THE LAST RIDE" WHICH CAME AS AN OUTTAKE FROM THE "SKATERHATER" SESSIONS AND "POISON CLAM" WHICH WAS A "XXX PARTY" OUTTAKE. I REALLY DIG THE PHANTOM SURFERS BUT I'M AFRAID THEY MET THEIR MATCH HERE SONGWISE AND SOUNDWISE. AS FOR THE OTHER RELEASES TRY THE LABEL "SCATTER RECORDS", MIDHAVEN RECORDS, OR EVEN THE MUNSTER RECORDS SITE. I GOT IN CONTACT WITH THE BASS PLAYER AND GOT THE 7" AND SOME OTHER STUFF SENT DIRECTLY FROM THEM JUST EMAIL THEM FOR THOSE OTHER RELEASES. |

Great news! I'm definitely looking forward to that. -Warren —That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it. |

Jeff, make sure you dig up the 'Phantom Surfers - Go! The Phantom Surfers race against the Tormentos' release. I think The Tormentos cover of Contact off that release is really groovy! |

Grab your Board.......I was sold once I found the Tormentos name on a Gordon and Smith surfboard logo and competition stripes adorning the CD . Nice vintage details. The CD was excellent as well. I found a smallish Ann Arbor Michigan record label that sold some South American bands "No Fun Records" Grab your Board, as well as Go, have Spaghetti-western,Hot Rod instros as well as trad and modern surf fare. (Go is a split but it does has 7 songs) The newest album "Grab Your Board" is from 2004. I am really looking forward the the new album coming out. Trode |
