I remember this went around a while back and was found to be false, but according to an email I got from a sales rep at Ishibashi they are no longer shipping new Japanese Fenders to the United States as of this past month.
"I regret to tell you another bad news, but we Ishibashi are not able to ship Fender Japan items
overseas now ...
Fender USA requested Fender Japan to only sell items inside Japan and we
Ishibashi follow this policy from this January...
I apologize for any inconvenience or disappointment this may cause to
you...
For used items, there are no regulations like this. So if you find any
Fender Japan item you are interested in the future, please let me know.
I'll check if it is still available and also check its condition.
Here is a link to our U-BOX, our used instruments site.

If you have a question, please let me know."
Kind of a bummer.

Value of used CIJs are going to go up. Remember when you could get these for $500 or under used? And when they were $500 new that one time.

I bought a used sunburst MIJ Jaguar for $410 on eBay around five or six years ago. Those days are goooooone. And yeah, there was a time when stuff from Ishibashi seemed criminally cheap.

If I was Ishibashi I'd just sell all new guitars as "used" to the US...I mean once you take it out of the box and strum it once it's now a "used" instrument right? They could just sell it at new price.

First of all... Yeah right ... Email again as if you never got that message. If you get the same response, do it again in 2 weeks... The last "gold rush" on CIJ was based on a message from Ishibashi too.
As to MIJ going up in price again, they're already "knock-knock-knockin' at heaven's door" If our European friends could get a used US for $200 to $300 more than a used Japanese do you think they'd consider japanese for a second? Okay some might, but you get what I'm saying.
