There has been some discussion here about the great Surf Coasters. Here is a clip of them playing what looks like that Yamaha guitar (and bass). Sounds great!! |

I've always had a thing for Yamaha Basses, really great players in my opinion. I've never listened to them at all until today, and everything I've heard is fantastic. I want to get something by them now. —I am super sweet |

Shaun, are you familiar with the Yamaha BB series basses popular in the 80's? Andy Rourke of The Smiths played a BB2000 for all their studio albums I think. One of my all time favorite bass players and bass tones. +1 on the Surf Coasters. I'm just discovering them myself. WOW!! |

No, I haven't seen any 80's Yamaha Basses, although I do have a really early 90's TRB-411. It's the really nice $2000 model too, not the common $600 one. It plays amazingly though, one of the fastest necks I've ever played. Although it does have a somewhat scooped sound because of the active system, I think that is just the nature of active systems. Yeah, I want to get a Surf Coasters cd now, that bass player has some good lines. —I am super sweet |

TBJ stands for Terry and the Blue Jeans. I guess that design was customized for Terry in the 70s or 80s but personally think it looks horrible with the roses and gold hardware. I'm a fan of the regular SGV looks though. — |

Yeah, that TBJ one is too elaborate for my liking but I love the shape of those Yamahas ... quite keen to own one of the standard ones. —http://www.myspace.com/thepashuns Youth and enthusiasm are no match for age and treachery. |

Sure, it's too baroque, but I really love the fret markers! |

The SGVs were Japan's version of a "melted down Mosrite" if I recall correctly. Even some of the early '70's models managed to have MOSRITE (Moseley Trem's) and P'Ups on them as well...... —.......make the Mos' of it, |
