Apparently Danny Amis went to Argentina to play some dates with the Tormentos. Word got out about this and then he got invited to play at a surf festival (!) in Belo Horizonte, Brazil last Saturday.
I have a brother-in-law that is living in Belo, and he found out about this somehow before I did (he isn't a surf fan). Anyway, he did go see him play and ended up talking to Danny for quite a while. What a hoot! He told Danny about this site and Danny said he had visited before.
I think Danny played at the club/bar that one of the guys from Estrumental owns.
Small world!

He better hurry and get back to California... he's playing at the Casbah in San Diego tomorrow night (Wed. 4/11/07)!! (with Big Sandy on vocals.)
Has anyone seen this show or are they opening this tour in San Diego? Are they doing all vocals (in Spanish) or mixing it up? My wallet wants to know.

I've got a Tormentos CD. Great surf band!
When I was down in Buenos Aires last time in '05 I bought a used 1968 Japanese Mosrite copy there that was last owned by the guitarist from the "other" surf band out of Argentina, Los Kahunas - another excellent surf band.
You guys should check'em both out.

Yes, Los Straitjackets is starting a US tour again. But then later in May Danny is going back to Brazil to play with The Dead Rocks. Busy guy!
I have heard good things about the Tormentos. I have the Los Kahunas CD. They have good dual guitar interplay and some nice mid-tempo songs with good melodies, but it was quite frankly a little boring to me. One of those discs you listen to but then have no memory of later. But they are definitely one of those bands that I have strong hopes for for their next CD, and will continue to check out.
DP liked them a bit more than I did. Here is his review:

I have heard good things about the Tormentos.
They're pretty amazing--both their album and the split with the Phantom Surfers are well worth picking up. Just my $0.02.
