Ha, I used to play in that band that's running from the monster in that poster. But'm actually running away from that band!

I am insane
Still recovering from the DAVIE ALLAN 3 day blitz. and I head out to Chicago and Green Bay?
I had the joy of meeting the TRASHMEN (I had my SURFIN' BIRD 45 rpm with me....); and did introduce them and the NEANDERTHALS on stage for the 2 nights I went up there....what a joy!! Freakin' out inside b/c I love THE TRASHMEN
and yes, they still play some rippin' instro surf in their set, I'd say maybe 5, 6 numbers (can't remember all the tunes, sorry...but included MISERLOU, WALK DON'T RUN, BAJA, TUBE CITY)
totally top-notch musicianship, great energy; very professional presentation
THE NEANDERTHALS were, as usual, well, quite UNSTEADY! Teen Beat played drums, and Todd from the HI-RISERS joined JOHNNY RABB and EDDIE ANGEL
gonna crash out
do check out THE TRASHMEN if they ever swing thru your town

OK, this is going to show my age, but I saw the Trashmen shortly after Surfin Bird was released in '63. I stood about 4ft in front of the band and had a delightful ringing in my ears for hours after.

In what sense do you mean unsteady when describing the Neanderthals? I haven't seen them live, but Eddie is the MAN in my book.

UNSTEADY meaning at times a little off, funny, quirky, wild, off-beat, whatever
the reference is a POSITIVE one, I assure you

p.s.
in an interview I did with EDDIE ANGEL in Calella, Spain at the WIPE-OUT FESTIVAL in 2004 for 'TWANG SHEBANG', he told me,
"I have made a good living out of being unsteady", and we just cracked up --- the reference was a follow-up to a discussion on the Mexican wrestling masks in LOS STRAITJACKETS as well as the get-ups for THE NEANDERTHALS
all in good fun

Looks like they were made by Bob Schade (Hallmark)?

I kind of figured you meant that in a positive way, given your nickname and all but I guess in my mind there was a chance you meant they were uneven.
The insanity factor (unsteadiness) is part of the attraction to Los Straits for me.
("Supersonic Guitars in 3-D" - I'm sure the Ventures thought "I wish we had come up with that title back in 1965!")

Ewga bloooga! This is Bob Shade here. I built these rock guitars for the Neanderthals as Kustom made Hallmarks and it is very cool to see the band in action using them. I may go to see them tonight in Baltimore if the current forecast of tornados don't get the boy's flight in rubble...........I mean trouble. All for now...thank you for posting the great shots!!...
No guitars rock like Hallmarks!

Hey Unsteady! Had a great time at the Neanderthal show in Baltimore seeing the Hallmark Rock guitars in action on stage! This was the first time I got to catch the band playing them! What a gas! It was a super fun project for some super good guys. Eddie really loves his guitar and gets a big crowd reaction when he walks out on stage with them. It puts a smile on my face too!
Hallmark Guitars is involved with a concept lp in conjunction with George Barris of Barris Kustom City ( ala Batmobile, Munster Koach, Dragula, Ala Karte etc.) with the bands that use our guitars currently.
The lp is going to feature the talents of The Neanderthals, The Sprague Brothers, The Collins Kids, Deke Dickerson, The Dynotones, The Hot Rod Trio, and more......stay tuned.
Thank you for the nice note and great photo's of the guitars! I really appreciate it.
