Permalink Hey San Franciscans - I'm coming to your town

New Topic

My fiance and I decided to do wine country for our honeymoon and we're going to spend the weekend of April 25th in San Francisco on our way back from Sonoma County. Any of you guys (Bill?) got any recommendations for a good (for the money...) place to stay, places to go, stuff to do, etc? We'll have from Friday night through Saturday night. A gig to go to would be cool. Smile

There's lots of boutique hotels in the Union Square/theater district. Which is centrally located to lots of stuff. Check this website out:

http://www.jdvhotels.com/

This assumes a fairly large budget, if your budget is modest, stick to the chains. If you're not renting a car, tell me where you're looking at so I can let you know about public transit options. When you get closer to the visit, pop me a PM and I'll see what gigs are going on for you.

As for what to do, given your small time period, tell us what you're more interested in:
Nature
Art and culture
History
sports/recreation
drinking

Next time we are in San Fran I hope we spend more than 12 hours there. Bill took us to the Full House house, it was religious.

Hey Richard when you guys "do wine country" ouch...here's some ideas.....travel from Santa Rosa up River Road stop at Korbel Champagne Cellers (nice bubbly and gardens)...keep going into Guerneville and hang a right at Armstrong Woods Road and go to a most wonderful Redwood Grove..get back on River Road and head staight out to the Sonoma Coast (if you sponge or surf try Doran or Salmon Creek(shark at Salmon somtimes)..also Bodega Harbor is nice to get out and walk around.....this road will take you through many beaches then into the country..watch for signs pointing to Sebastopol ....lots of antique stores there...end up on Hwy 12 that will bring you back to Santa Rosa..Have Fun!

Richard, if you get to Sonoma give me a buzz, I'm in the book. (Does she know about "us" yet?) Wink

Hey Richard,
Look for a PM in the next 24 hours -- I can give you all the skinny on everything to do in and around the Bay.

there is some kind of event going on, I don't know the details yet but there are 4 bands playing 3 of which are The Lava Rats, Meshugga Beach Party and Pollo Del Mar. It's in the afternoon, sorry I don't know the order of bands or any more details, but will post when I do.

Woah, thanks a lot for all the replies.

Danny, I am renting a car and I am having to be budget-minded, so I'll probably just look for a chain location that's pretty central. We're interested in possibly doing anything on your list but I guess art, culture, and history (if you were to ask me, it would be "drinking," but I have a feeling after wine country I'll be kinda over it) would be at the top of our list. I've never been to California, so I'd like to see as much of SF and the west coast as I can within reason. Not trying to squeeze every square inch of the place in in one weekend.

kenpo, thanks for the tip. I am definitely into seeing the Redwood forests and I'll look into your route. Sounds like a good way to take in a lot of the country.

Fritz...you live in Sonoma? Cool, we're staying at a B&B in Geyserville called The Hope-Merrill House. Seemed like a nice place on the website and we got a good deal on the room. And no, she doesn't know about "us" yet and she doesn't need to...at least not yet. Smile I'm gonna have to sneak it in at some point...

Bill, I'll look to hear from you.

Ferenc, we will be there! That is awesome and that's it's an afternoon show is a bonus because we'll be getting up to fly back on Sunday. Keep me posted on the details. Looking forward to meeting as many of you as I can.
