Thanks for posting!
What a sweet guy Don is.
I wonder if Bob Bogle will be able to make it to the RNRHOF induction ceremony.

Well, There's living proof that you DEFINITELY need a Mosrite for Driving Guitars.....Sounded like one of my Heroes was choking on the Tele, and couldn't get it to respond...... Sad

That was just plain sad.
Don Wilson sounds as good as ever, but Nokie....eeeesh....I don't think it's the guitar, it just sounds like he has no strength left in his fretting hand. Everyone has an "off night" from time to time, but every recent video I've seen featuring Nokie sounded that way.

Zak, thank you, and I don't mean that sarcastically. Nokie has ALWAYS been one of my Heroes, as I was turned on to him in the Ventures from my older cousins when they were playing. I'm 48, and still love this music as well as the music I grew up with (Corporate Rock {I hate that phrase!} Boston, Foreigner,Styx, etc, etc.).
Me being a Newb on here since I joined just recently, I didn't want to stir up commotion. But yeah, I too have noticed that the more recent vids I've seen of Nokie were OK, at best. I also posted in another thread wanting to know what happened to Bob Bogle. Somebody else also wanted to know how Bob's health was, so naturally, I reacted to the post as well. Do you know anything about Bob??? Just curious, Thanx!!!

All I know about Bob Bogle is that he hasn't been playing with the Ventures live lately. The 5th Venture, Bob Spaulding (?) has been taking his place. Unspecified health problems is what I have heard.

Thanks guys, appreciate the response. Was wandering what happened to Bob AND Gerry McGee. He kind of disappeared off the Ventures Happenings as well.....

Bob Bogle is offically retired from touring but still recording with the band. He and Don Wilson just played on the new album by the Charades - Bogle's lead guitar on "The Magnificent Seven" was just released! (there's a video compiled by the Charades on youtube)

Gerry McGee is the official touring lead guitar player for the Ventures, and plays lead on all their summer tours of Japan (Nokie play lead on their shorter winter tours). I have no idea why he wasn't at the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame.

I've only seen the Ventures play in NY in the last few years and its always been Nokie on lead and most of the time he's near perfect. A few errors here and there but the overall power of just being in the room with him and Don Wilson is good enough for me.

According to Nokie's website, he'll be playing at their upcoming Epcot Center shows. Not that I don't LOVE seeing him play, but I was hoping I'd get a chance to see Gerry McGee play live some time. Gerry did play when the Ventures played the Santa Monica Pier last summer.

I have not had the pleasure of seeing The Ventures play live, but I have seen a few of their DVD performances. As much as I like Nokie on lead, Gerry McGee is one hulluva lead guitarist.

I'd be hard pressed to say which of the two I prefer. Gerry is incredibly inspiring on the "Live In Japan 1990" DVD. (plus, he smiles more often).

Thanks for posting those videos Wilkat1. Old age sucks, but it sure beats the alternative.

My understanding is that Bob is battling either leukemia or lymphphoma. There many different types of these diseases, with some being much more treatable than others. At Bob's age, any battle like this difficult. I'm sure that I speak for everyone who's ever been on or visited this site that he is in our prayers and we wish Bob and his extened family well.
