Last Friday was a treat.
HB Kahuna rented a rehearsal space and hosted one of the sweatiest nights of surf in memory.
I got to meet some first wavers that I had not met, and even got to jam with Eddie Bertrand!!! (Chris, have you been able to wipe that smile off your face yet?)
Any way folks brace yourself for some shots and videos of the event!
Thanks again HB, for inviting us!I'll post some thoughts, and try to get some more videos up later....

Does the Kahuna play guitar? I never got to ask him when we met as we didn't get much time to chat.

I've only ever seen BB King play 1 chord so I think Kahuna has something going on.

Some of those amps don't even match! Lame...
Lucky bastards. Their gear is why I only have wheat thins for lunch. Granted wheat thins are delicious.
Chris looks happy on the '60s strat. That thing is gorgeous. Given my immense distaste for strats I have to say that is the best looking instrument of the lot, although I'd like to get a look at the sunburst Jazz bass. Fender sure could make a burst look pretty back in the day.

What! The Jazz bass doesn't have covers... Fellas, aesthetics over playability please. Joking of course, well 99% joking. As I am no good at playing bass I feel overly qualified to teach bass players how to comfortably play.

Ha! Those guys having a good time down there? I'm going to say yes.
There is something really refreshing about staying in Southern California when you don't have to be up on time for a job. We stayed out near Kristena's house and I'd wake at 9am and take a crossword puzzle out onto the patio overlooking a canyon every morning and sit there for a couple hours until the rest of the fellas woke up. Very different from Seattle.

We are a bit sleep deprived... Chris got beat up really bad by a drink called the Blue Hawaiian but everyone is still alive.

That'd be a blast. Only problem is the 'Verbs don't really know many surf classics... we can teach everyone That Thing You Do!

"That Thing You Do" would be a blast we could also Jam on current surf numbers like the Bambi tunes and such

Mucho fun. We are more familiar with the modern stuff because we don't have a very good foundation to work off of in Seattle due to how hard it is for us to find the old stuff. Plus, I think how we were raised musically draws us to the more recent stuff.

Yes, that was a nice evening of fun and surf, and even if it was in the middle of the night, it was HOT, as in temperature HOT. Eddie Bertrand showed up with an amp called El Sunido. These are handcrafted amps by Dario Gomez using vintage Showman like specs and cabs but more reliable it seems. That amp really sounded good. Next time Tim decides to have one of these sessions I am bringing my own kit. Can't rely on drums supplied by rehearsal studios. I had a good time with the local guys, Eliminators, Eddie, Jim, and our visitors here for the NAMM show, The Aquasonics from Colorado, The Neptunes from Fresno

Seeing the looks on the faces of all the garage grunge punk bands as all the blond Showmans were being loaded in was priceless.
That is always the best part.

I'd like to see a concept album similiar to Muddy Waters' "Fathers and Sons", with some of the legends of the first wave playing together with the current players doing a combination of classic and modern surf tunes.
