I agree the lead is good--low volume and subtle touch. If you haven't already, everyone check out their version of "Carioca" next to that same link. Really nice pinky volume swell work. Top
WR Joined: Feb 27, 2006 Posts: 3832 netherlands	Posted on Jan 20 2008 02:34 PM there's a lot about indo-rock on the net, unfortunatly most is in Dutch. the mini-history lesson: Indonesia used to be a Ducth colony and gained independence after a few years of rather bloody and messy (on our part mostly) battle. during and after this period a lot of indonesians came to the netherlands, after having fought on the Dutch side. youc an imagine it wouldnt have been particularly attractive to have stayed in Indonesia. among them also many mixeed couples, btw, mostly Dutch soldiers who'd married an indonsian girl. the kids of this returning generation were in their teens in the late 50's, indonesians as well as half indonsians, and they got their influence from (sirupy sweet) indonesian music, european instro music and american rock and roll (indorock started a few years earlier than surf, mostly), and that's what made the typical indorock sound. there's an other side to indorock as well, which lends far more from the trad music and way less from R&R, and it sound a bit like a polonesian girl singing patsy cline songs in a high pitched voice with kiddy song lyrics. anneke gronl;oh is the most prominent example Many of the indorock people that still play nowadys do both kinds. if you like the indorock sound (key ingredients very thin strings and klemmt echolette) you MUST check out the tielman brothers here with dark eyes. thanks for diggin these up! — Rules to live by #314: "When in Italy, if the menu says something's grilled, don't assume it is." https://www.facebook.com/The-Malbehavers-286429584796173/ Top

Those Tielmans are great, and wow a Les Paul gold top and "black beauty" custom! I'm officially in gear overload. Anneke Gronl doing the Hawaiian number . . . Vintage Hawaiian music is another musical passion of mine. There were two Dutch-Indo steel guitar greats, Rudy Wairata and George de Fretes. I don't suppose those names mean anything to you if you are not into Hawaiian. But their period of popularity fits right into your mini-history. (post-war 50s). Thanks for the info! Top

I think that is very important let the popular music..or folk... came back to the Surf music... I'm officially in gear overload. haha, yeah cool. actually, the les paul was the favorite guitar in indorock... somewhere early 60' s the Tielman brothers switched to jazzmasters, even though they didnt like thesound as much as the les paul, but it was much lighter which was better for their stage antics. the tielmans really were the trendsetters in indorock and shortly afterwards everyone wanted a jazzmaster ...
