Assuming what I do can be considered "playing" the guitar:

"Walk Don't Run" _
"Pipeline"
"Penetration"
"Wipeout"

Try the slow version: "Martine Five-O". It's the last song on the Starbuck's CD.

That's a good CD, it's called 'Big Waves" and it even includes a sticker!!!

Man those are both great versions of Pipeline...but, I always thought that the Chantays' version was the most difficult for me to learn...because of that dang organ part!

Oh Yeah...my first tune ever ever ever on guitar was 'Batman Theme' (the Ventures version)...

Pipeline, which it may be heresy to say here, but I first heard and learned the version by Stevie Ray Vaughan with Dick Dale.

And I still love that version of it.

Swing! Twang! Shake! Twist!

If I remember correctly, the first surf tunes I learned were "Pipeline" & "Wipe Out". The first instro tune I learned was "Rebel Rouser".

PS: "Pipeline" (the Anthrax version Laughing ....just kidding!)

"Walk Don't Run" _ "

"Blue Star (not surf, but what a beautiful old instro)"

Hey, if you put enough reverb on ANY song, it suddenly becomes " surf"!

As I remember, it was Walk Don't Run for me also, as well as bits and pieces of several of the songs on The Ventures "Surfing" album._

I think it was Apache..

The reality is that we do not wash our own laundry - it just gets dirtier.

Just got into surf... Just learned Pipeline (most of it anyway).

Well, I first learned some of Misirlou... but I suck at double picking.

That's cool. By the way, welcome to SG101...your name rules: Killer Tofu! Thumbs Up

Walk Don't Run may not be surf but Walk Don't Run '64 with its extra-drippy reverb definitely is.

Swing! Twang! Shake! Twist!

Thanks for the warm welcome. Cheers Wink

pipeline - agent orange version

PIPELINE

then Walk Don't Run

APACHE, then MISERLOU

(yeah I 'noodle about' a little bit, with the emphasis on 'little')

Hava Nagila, but that was more of simpflied version taught in my guitar lesson book.

1st surf instrumental figured out all by my lonesome was High Tide by the Lively Ones.

It was either WDR or Apache
and then the 3rd was the all mighty "Hawaii 5-0" (Which I gave up on at the time being I was only playing for a few months) It got frustrating!

Just starting Surf guitar...

Apache. It was the one that I was most familiar with how it was supposed to sound, so it seemed a good choice.

The second one is Pipeline. When I mentioned it in the lunch room at work, one of the other guys said it was the first tune he ever learned to play on guitar.

I'm not a complete idiot. Some parts are missing.

Pipeline was my first. It's still the song I revert to when I haven't played for a while or otherwise feel like nothing else is working.

After that? Probably Wipe Out and Apache, Penetration is in there as well.

A great moment for me was listening to Walk Don't Run on the radio while driving and the basic chord progression occurred to me. Yea, I know it's not complicated but for me it was a banner moment. I had to run home and try it out. Unfortunately, as an "ear" player I haven't progressed much further...

Now that I think about it, I believe the first song I actually learned all the way through was 'Honolulu Lulu' by Jan and Dean Released in 1963
Man that was a long time ago! Shocked Then again now that I think about it, it could have been apache, pipeline?????
