I was searching around my local guitar shop today for any new left-handed guitars they had gotten in, and I stumbled across a Hagstrom F-300. I liked the style of the guitar, and I was actually impressed by the sound, considering it's only $300.
I'm curious if anyone else has some experience with this or other Hagstroms and could maybe give me some insight before I go out and decide to add one more guitar to my collection (not that there's anything wrong with that ).

I don't have a Hagstrom.... but this guitar looks great!
If you'll buy it go with the Candy Apple Red!

Unfortunately for us lefties, we can only buy it in Black Gloss.
Guitar companies really need to learn that not all lefties enjoy the color black.

What is a "wolf tone"?
...Another Hagstrom exclusive, the resinator fretboard is an extraordinary, homogeneous wood composite that maintains a strong fundamental harmonic and eliminates wolf tones...

I'd say if your hapy with the feel, and like the sound, go for it.

Let us know what a wolf-tone-less guitar sounds like.
Guess you can't play "Werewolf" by the Frantics on it?!

a wolftone is some kind of slightly sharp overtone which is per definion present in cellos. I think there's some kind of gadget or technique to counteract it. Ive never heard of wolftones outside the world of cellos. let's do a wikipedia search
in the ,meantime I used to have a gorgous orangy sunburst Viking, you know, the Elvis hagstrom with an es-ish body and strat headstock. didnt play to comfortable buyt a real looker, I thini it was a late 60's. new hagstroms are basically a differnet company though, I think. the one posted here oin this thread ais also available with what looks like two p90's, looks a lot better, sort of an SG/JM hybrid....

there you go, I remembered more or less correctly, but there is a bit more to it. the wikipedia article also has a soundsample of a wolftone on a cello.

Well it's been awhile since I started this post, but I finally got my Hagstrom. Instead of buying the F-300, I went with the Hagstrom F-200P in Creme. It was only a bit more, and I thought it was worth it.

I must say, I love this guitar. For the money, I couldn't be happier. It plays like a dream, and it has a unique styling to it that I just love. The stock pickups are actually very well made, but I still think I'll be switching them out to something a bit better in not too far down the road (any sugestions on that?). I've got to get some better strings on it (comes stock with D'addarios), but overall I'm extremely pleased with the guitar.
I recommend this guitar if anyone's looking for something good that's affordable and a bit different.

I really like where Hagstrom is going. the technology is impressive. The truss, and fingerboard I mean. I love rosewood, but I worked briefly at stars guitars in SF back in the 80s and played around with alot modulus graphite stuff. composite fingerboards can really kick some butt. Of course this from somebody with all wood guitars and other than my AVRIs nothing younger than 15 years old...

I'm just wondering about the neck. I see that the F-200P has the 24 3/4" scale, and I prefer that scale over the 25 1/2" scale, but I'm wondering is the neck thin or chunky? Also, narrow or wide?
Thanks!

Size wise, the neck is pretty close to a strat, but it plays much smoother (in my opinion). It's extremely comfortable to work your way up and down the fret board with it's neck, but it can be a little difficult at times to quickly reach some of the higher frets on the guitar (really only 20 and 21). Still, it's definitely a great guitar with a great neck.
I hope that answered your question.

I've never had a problem with wolf tones on a guitar. I suppose it's good, just in case, though.
