It's pretty easy, but you have to take your time. Most of the electronics (except the pickups) are attached to the pickguard. The output jack, volume & tone pots, the vol & tone roller pots, sliding switch, pickup selector are all connected to the pickguard. In addition, the wires between these components are usually taped onto the pickguard. The pickups are not attached to the pickguard, but two of their wires do connect to the switches, so be careful when you pull the pickguard off!

The good new is that no re-soldering is required! If you take your time and work carefully, it's usually a piece of cake. Good luck!

Cool... My ocean turquoise JM should be here tomorrow, and I have a tortoise shell guard to put on it. I've done a pickguard swap on a Strat once or twice, no biggie, just didn't know if there was anything to look out for under the JM's hood.

I'll post pics of her when she gets here.

You could say that - the white one was Japanese, this one is AVRI. I think I finally "get" all the subtle differeces people have been saying between the CIJ's and USA models, especially the p/ups.

For some reason I tend to regard white pickguards as surferstyle and tortoise as everybodyelsesâ style.

Of course I am wrong.

But take the Chevells, they even had sunbursts with white guards!!!

I thought the mint guard with the OTM color just looked kinda "plain jane" to me. I love the way they look on sunbursts, though.
