So we finished recording and mixing our album in 3 days. We will get it mastered soon. So the next step is finding somebody to put it out for us. We'd rather not do a self-release. If I must say so the album sounds really good. We got some really great takes. The album will have 16 originals on it. We recorded two covers at the studio but those were never intended to be on the record. The covers are Don't Worry Baby and Squad Car.

So will it be available at Duff's next weekend? Regardless, we're looking forward to Verbtones/'Verb action!

I really diggin' "El Capitan"! and "Boogie at the Beach" has a sweet rhythm guitar riff.
Great work guys. Here here for the younger surf fans!

cool stuff jake! I 'll get the album for sure. say, that 3/4 thing, was it inspired by the stranglers' golden brown?

It wasn't inspired by the Stranglers. I've actually never heard of them nor do I think the other guys have either.
Thanks for the kind words everybody.

honestly, i think atlantic waltz was actually strongly influenced from my classical days (high school) when i was studying bach's "the art of the fugue". as far as the harmony and bass parts go anyways. melody and chord structure i have no idea. i just kind of said to myself i want to write a kind of sad sounding song in three and came up with that. i think i wrote the guitar and bass parts in about an hour and a half. it kind of just came out really. weird how that happens sometimes. anyways, i have never heard of the stranglers, where are they from?

the song is here: http://opioids.com/images/the-stranglers.html - just click the mp3 link at the top.
I don't know to much about them, they were considered a punk band though not really playing punk music. brittish band, rather melodic. late 70's early eighties I think. I saw they have a wikipidia entrance http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Stranglers but I don 't have time to read thru it right now. a quick glance showed there was a classical trained musician in the band, so maybe it's common influence?
the atmosphere and the combination of 3/4 and the chord structure just reminded me og the song. Also the stranglers song is 3/4 , but has one wierd 4/4 bar in the intro-scheme. anyway, it's a very cool song, not as cool as "atlantic Waltz" though ... !

it was studio litho, stone gossard of pearl jam's recording studio. so it was a rented studio. that was my '65 reverb tank on top of the rack in the picture though. it's a really nice studio and we had a great engineer. the engineer was also the engineer on three of the manatees' albums.

thanks for the info. I'll look forward to hearing the entire album, and on a real stereo instead of a PC.
