Permalink Bass tab request: "Rumble"

New Topic

Okay, in spite of it being included here http://www.musicnotes.com/sheetmusic/book.asp?ppn=BKHL315168, some people might not consider it Surf Music. But of those who accept it as "surfy enough," or just agree with me that it's one cool instrumental, I have a request: Can anyone point me to a good bass tab for "Rumble" by Link Wray?

I bought the Guitar Pro 5 viewer/player, and found a GP4 tab for the song before MySongBook.com was locked off, but the bassline in that just doesn't sound like the recording I have of Link Wray and His Ray Men pounding it out. Likewise, the Guitar Guru tab I bought from Musicnotes (the site linked above) is great for one electric and one acoustic guitar part, but has nothing for bass. (I think they're "playing catchup" on their Bass Guru stuff.) Confused

Thanks from a new member.

I'd have to agree not surf. Link's music hasn't been accepted as surf by the surf fans, nor has it really been accepted as rockabilly by their fans. He was a rebel anyway and so his music should be in it's own class.

Unfortunately, I've lost my music recently so I can't help you, right now.

Link wasn't a surf artist for sure, but he had a tremendous influence on surf musicians.

As for the tab, I'm gonna have to suggest you try to learn it yourself. You'll be a better musician for it.

Dang. From your username, I figured if anyone had it tabbed out, it'd be you.
Hope you get everything back okay.

Well, one of the things nobody'd ever mistake me for is a musician. Or electronics technician, carpenter, plumber, etc., etc. I do have a good time, though, doing some things I might oughta not attempt. (Maybe because ignorance is bliss? Razz )

Thanks anyway, guys.

I understand it is very rough when you are a beginner. Maybe someone else can help. But I urge you to sit down and try to work it out yourself. Tab is great when you are first starting out, but you'll want to develop your own ear and get off the training wheels quickly. You've probably found the guitar tab, so you know what chords are being played. Good luck.

Link Wray rules.

Another strategy: you are lucky you are tackling Rumble. This has been covered only about a million times. Try to get a hold of as many versions as you can and listen for the bass line. Some versions you will be able to hear the bass better than the others. There will be some differences too.

Did you see this? I have no idea if it is even close. I'm assuming it's the same Rumble.

Hah! Well, I don't play bass, though. But I have thought about learning the bass part, also. I agree with Brian, though, learning it yourself will be much more satisfying (if you can get it right at all!) and it might make you better at note recognition.

Not 100% correct, I'm sure, but close enough probably.

Didn't learn closure got bored at this point.

I'll let you know if or when I learn the original version.
