I usually give the album reviews in USA Today a quick scan just to see if there is ever any surf coverage, imagine my surprise at this:
"Rick Springfield. There's no Santa's Girl, but Springfield takes the holiday plunge â literally on Deck the Halls (With Boughs of Longboards), a seasonal surf instrumental."
It's on itunes, listened to a snippet, not too bad. Did he have any history with surf bands?
Oh yea, first time posting, love the website.

He was in various Australian bands in the late 60s, the most successful being Zoot. I imagine that as a teenage aspiring guitarist in Australia, he maybe had some exposure to the Australian and American bands.

Ah yes, Rick Springfield, golden boy goes overseas to do well, never comes back, except at Christmas time.
I don't know about the 'surf' thing though, he was a pretty handy guitar player I believe and like most others, he probably heard 'surf' music via the radio or perhaps at the Bondi Lifesaver back in the late '60's.
