Permalink FS 1962 Fender Jaguar Ocean Turqouise

New Topic

Forgive a newbie here I'm not sure if I can sell this here. If I can't delete this post.

I have references if needed. I heard you guys would appreciate this more than most. A member of this forum sent me here.

Pre CBS 1962 Fender Jaguar Ocean Turqouise

Neck Plate 92829

May 1 62 B Neck Date indicating that it is a Brazilian Slabboard fingerboard

Slabboard body

Original Plastic and Hardware,Trem arm, pot codes date to 1962, Original decal Transition logo, Fender. Patent #'s on decal can be read with a magnifying glass. The Custom body decal is missing

Changed Bridge PuP, original in case, Neck PuP is original.

The only non original solder joint is the Bridge PuP from what I can see

Non original Hard shell case, the Mute is missing, you can find them for $50

Now one of the dumbest things someone could have done.

They sanded the lower bout on the neck pocket, leaving it almost bare
the neck pocket however contains its original color on the top and sides and also some near the middle of the body. There is color in every cavity and the nails marks are under the bridge. The Fullerplast can clearly be seen where it has wear.

I believe Fender was going to make this Candy Apple Red but decided a different and custon ordered new color, Ocean Turqouise!

Fender often painted guitars and people would custom order new colors so they just took one off the shelf and painted over it, very common for this time period.

Some dings and some checking. One gorgeous guitar though.

I have had it blacklighted and the Nitro and Fullerplast check out.

The Fullerplast should be Blueish-Purple or something correct?

I have never seen one of this color this early before, I can only imagine it wasn't popular enough for fender to use until the surf craze and custom color guitars became a hot commodity .

If anyone here has anymore knowledge please help me out

Welcome aboard Sean. Looks like a killer guitar. Have you a price in mind?

Thanks alot man. Wink I was thinking around 4K.

$3500 with 2 day shipping included?

No offense, but are you sure it's not just a refin?

According to this, they didn't use Ocean Turquoise until '65. I don't think this guitar would have been sitting that long. If it was a factory refin, there would be a stamp somewhere, likely under the pickguard.

Nice guitar, though.

Yes I'm 99.9% sure.

My friend has a 5o's Candy Apple Red Bass that is original. Ocassionally Fender did do other custom colors before they were offered to the public. This one of them.

3500??...

is the final price??

Ocean Turquoise was introduced originally by Ford, who used it on Mercurys and Fords in 1965. It was called Twilight Turquoise. Fender originally got the color from Ford. How did Leo have it before Ford did?

Article here

Candy Apple Red was the only custom color not taken from an auto manufacturer. It was developed for Fender. It is much more likely to find an earlier example of CAR.

Once again, no offense. I just don't want to see anyone pay original finish prices for a refin'd guitar. Even if it is refin'd, 3500 isn't terribly outrageous. If it is an original '62 custom color, I would think you would be asking a heck of a lot more for it...

Could it be a factory refin? Have you looked under the pickguard for any kind of markings?

a jag? why is the pictures of a strat then? what am i missing here?

The reality is that we do not wash our own laundry - it just gets dirtier.
