when I was younger I though that Page was really good, and still do,
but when I later found out that he got all messed up on Heroin he went way down in my book.

of course haw many other great rockers were on drugs.
don't tell me I don't wanna know.

Check out the unauthorized bio of Led Zep "Hammer of the Gods" (if you haven't already). An entertaining read about rock and roll excess. Even if some of it is made up, I guess. Confused

Hey, this thread is splitting in two. Like an amoeba.

Something like this, though if I did the list at another time it would look different - in the order of favorites:

Hell’s Bells
Let There Be Rock
Shoot To Thrill
It’s a Long Way To the Top
Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap
Whole Lotta Rosie
If You Want Blood (You’ve Got It)
Girl’s Got Rhythm
Go Down

gotta give some props to Brian Johnson - he stepped into an impossible situation and created one of the all-time classic hard rock albums.

I'll do my top 10 acdc songs when I get back from my trip.

I think that Back in Black, and For those about to Rock are ok acdc albums,
after that its pretty much bad news.

Ruhar just reminded me of all the great songs i missed. I could probably make a list of 40 or 50 Dylan songs that I would have no problem considering my favorite.

It was tough to leave off Lay Lady Lay, but I had two from Nashville Skyline already and it is my 4th or 5th favorite Dylan album. Leaving off Hurricane, OMCOC(VB), and every other song from Desire really hurt as well. As did leaving off Theme From Pat Garrett, Just Like a Woman, Stuck Inside of Mobile, 5 or six other tracks from Blonde on Blonde, Buckets of Rain, Shelter From the Storm, Tangled Up In Blue(How'd I leave that one off), You're Going to Make Me Lonesome When You God, Idiot Wing, John Welsley Harding, New Morning, Locust, All Along the Watchtower, My Back Pages, and so many more.

So people... Dylans All Along the Watchtower? I like it more than the Hendrix version.

The Razor's Edge is actually really good and Blow Up Your Video had a couple of decent songs. Fly On the Wall was awful. Flick of the Switch could have been pretty decent, but it had a terrible mix. (I read that when the producer played the band the first mix, their response was, "bloody hell, it sounds just like Back in Black - make it sound different". Shocked Yeah, why would you wanna make it sound like one of the best selling albums in history of rock music, that's crazy...

I like Dylan's version of All Along The Watchtower better too, but I'm not really a Jimi Hendrix fan to begin with.

My ten (for now, anyway)

It's Alright, Ma (I'm Only Bleeding)
Masters of War
Stuck Inside Of Mobile With The Memphis Blues Again
Don't Think Twice, It's All Right
Maggie's Farm
Subterranean Homesick Blues
Visions of Johanna
The Times They Are A-Changin'
Blowin' In the Wind
Corrina, Corrina

Jon, you need to get Desire, Blood on the Tracks, New Morning, and Nashville Skyline.

I've always hated Bob Dylan and I can't stand his voice. Then I saw the Scorsese documentary "No Direction Home". That really opened me up to that period from 1965 Newport to about 1966 pre-motorcycle accident, and I think for that VERY short time period he was his best. I still dislike anything after it or prior to it, but the stuff with Bloomfield and Al Kooper, and the stuff with the Band is really great.

Bill, I think that you would really enjoy the album New Morning.

Dylan:

  1. Tell Me, Momma
  2. Idiot Wind
  3. Subterranean Homesick Blues
  4. Masters of War
  5. Tombstone Blues
  6. Maggie's Farm
  7. It's All Over Now, Baby Blue
  8. From a Buick 6
  9. Outlaw Blues
  10. Just Like a Woman

Everything after John Wesley Harding is too overblown for my tastes.

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

I saw a program here on Public Television (OPB for those in Oregon). It made me think of this thread. It was from a documetary that someone did made up of footage from Bob Dylan's 3 consecutive Newport Folk Festival appearances, 1963-'65.

It is a really fascinating record of his astounding development over those 3 years. He goes from social conscious protest singer in '63, to poetic/proto psychedelia in '64, to the infamous "Dylan goes electric" performance in '65.

There were also some nice shots of Mike Bloomfield at the soundcheck and at the performance of "Like a Rolling Stone" in '65.

I only ever owned Dylan's first album and Blonde on Blonde. Unfortunately, I got rid of all my vinyl at some point and never replaced those.

I'm pretty sure Scorsessy (sp?) did that.
even though I dont dig Dylan, I watched that,
because everybody says how great he is.

No, this one was directed by Murray Lerner. I was too lazy to look up the proper title and info.

It's called "The Other Side of the Mirror: Live at Newport Folk Festival 1963-1965 (2007)

I think that Weird Al is better than Bob Dylan.
here he is doin Palindromes to a Bob Dylan esque song.
classic.
