Kyle I hate to be a wet blanket,
but all I've heard on different radio shows is how bad the new album is.

I'm a HUGE Beatles fan. Although to me he could do
almost no wrong with the Fab Four, McCartney's solo
stuff varies from great to absolutely horrible. Like most
of his solo CD's, the new CD didn't blow me away, but
it has its' moments. I'd probably rate it at 31/2 out of
five stars. I think Lennon and George Martin (and to a
lesser degree Harrison and Starr) really helped McCartney
edit and critique McCartney's own Beatles compositions
much better than Paul could do himself.

Everybody is a critic  I felt the same way when I heard his new disc a few times but it grows on you and I think it's his best yet seriously, I guess it's one of those things ol' clee-shay "The beauty is in the eye of the beholder" in this sense the music, I never pay any attention to the critics if it feels good sounds good to me that's what matters to my soul.

I'm a fan too, he's one of the few really great songwriters and my favourite bass player (but every instrument he touches turns to gold, piano, guitar..., actually his best solo works in my opinion are MC, MC II and Chaos... the 3 albums in which he plays all the instruments). Even electro-pop owes him a debt (Temporary Secretary on MCII is often quoted as a major influence by electronic musicians).

He is the guy that made me want to play bass when I was a kid. The bass playing on songs like Old Brown Shoe, Rain, Everyone's Got Something to Hide Except For Me and My Monkey and other mid and later era Beatles tunes are some of the best rock bass playing ever...imho.

Yeah, I'm a Paul McCartney fan, have been through the Beatles, Wings and some of his solo stuff phases.
The EPK video was good to listen to Paul bang on about the "experimental" stuff he's done, and after having a few Beatles song books lying around for awhile and you see the sheer amount of material those guys actually put out, the stuff that never made it must be absolutely awesome in its size, not to mention that some of it may be very interesting.

I think McCartney's last four solo albums have been really good, starting with Flaming Pie in 1997, which was excellent. Driving Rain from 2001 had some amazing moments, but was more uneven than Flaming Pie. Chaos and Creation in the Back Yard from 2005 is among his very best, IMHO. It took a while for that one to grow on me, but now I think it's a consistently high-quality album. Memory Almost Full again has some great moments, but I think overall it's the weakest of these last four (it was all songs that were rejected by producer Nigel Godrich, who then went on to do Chaos and Creation with McCartney). Nevertheless, it's possible to make the case that the last ten years have been McCartney's best since the Beatles. Certainly compared to his '83-'96 output, which was pretty much uniformly dreadful (with a bit of an exception with Flowers in the Dirt in '89, though that album sounds really dated to me at this point). I'm also a pretty big fan on his seventies stuff, including a big chunk of Wings, but it's absolutely true that McCartney badly needs a strong outside influence, an editor, cause the man seems to be incapable of distinguishing crap from diamonds when it comes to his music. (Going from Band on the Run to Wings At the Speed of Sound in the course of two or three years is one of the most remarkable examples of quality devolution I've ever seen.)
Anyway, it's nice to see the guy experiencing a creative renaissance in his late fifties and sixties. I'd say that if you ever liked anything by McCartney, chances are you'll enjoy big chunks of his last four albums.

Yep, I'm a big fan. When I was like 10 years old my old man bought me an electric guitar and asked if I wanted to take lessons. I said, "sure". During my one and only guitar lesson, the teacher tried to get me to play scales. I said, "But I only want to play Wings tunes!" That was the end of that 
I haven't really paid much attention to his solo work lately, but I'll definitely give some of the new stuff a go.

Wings Over America (a triple live album) was one of the first records I ever bought.
Boy, I sure hope not having a prenup doesn't come back to bite him in the a$$ too hard. Ouch.

Ok this one got me choked up, a tune McCartney wrote sometime after Lennon's death from the "Tug Of War" '82 release and I came across this live performance of "Here Today" done sometime this year 2007 check it out!
