I just got my bonus track from Double Crown Records in advance of my Surfites: Big Pounder order. What a great idea!
The song, "Drag-u-la Beat", sounds like it was recorded right in the heart of the First Wave of Hot Rod/Surf era. This is one trad sounding recording (I'm guessing it's mono), with drippy guitars, and a electric piano track, plus Dragster sndfx, and a chime-like bell. If the Big Pounder release is like this, I can't wait.

Hey, same here! I'm listening to it right now, in fact. It is a great idea--a little something extra to whet the appetite while waiting for Big Pounder to arrive. I can't wait either. What a sound!!

Thanks for the kind words, guys!
We are currently working on material for a second CD. Think something like a more surfy Ventures in Space concept album.

Exciting news!! From what I have heard so far, The Surfites capture the vintage sound better than anyone. It's like you have a time machine, or that this music came from a vault full of newly discoverd never before heard tapes from the 60s.
Looks like the new year is shaping up to be a good one for surf music .

We're looking at a spring 2008 release if everything goes as planned. The similarities with Ventures in Space basically stops with the space concept and time setting, which means there will be plenty of surf reverb throughout the album. However, some songs will also feature fuzz and echo. I'll also debut my Mosrite on a couple of tunes as well as the wicked VOX Repeat Percussion guitar effect. All songs will be Surfites originals.

Hmmmm. Seems to be going around...I predict that 2008 will be the year that surf/instrumental has a Fuzzy n' Wylde Freakout on its hands. Are you gonna be there?

what is a Vox percussion effect?
image
I have one. It's magic in a box - kind of. Definitely a one-trick pony, but it's really friggin' good at that one trick. It's a neat combination of delay and echo without really falling into either category. It plugs straight into the guitar's input jack - which means you can't use it with a Strat unless you gaffer tape it in place.
The only things I don't like about it are that it does kinda suck tone, and there's a noticeable volume drop.

Yeah, that's how I would describe it too. Definitely has a unique sound.
