awesome mr. green. I wish I had had the balls to play live at 15. I wish Id played well enough to play live at 15!

man, reading this site full of "bought this, played there, drank such and so" must be frustrating to you sometimes. but keep it up man, it's all in the fingers, you can play great surf on a humbucker squier and a frontman, and you can suck hard with a vintage jag and a showman... you're15 and you play surf, how much cooler can you get?! I'm very impressed that you have done your first SURF live at 15!
Congrats!

And, as Danny said, you've got a lot of support over here!

Mr. Green congrats on the 1st show! How's the music scene in Mexico city?

Answering your question Kyle, the surf/instro music scene in México City is in my opinion very active, there's at least 20 surf bands only in México City plus some others from other states. There's also a considerable amount of garage, Rock & Roll and rockabilly/psychobilly bands. Most of them play regularly.

Is there any other good bands in the other states of Mexico that you guys like?

Yeah there's Los Pegajosos from Puebla and Los Santisimos Snorkels also from Puebla, I think they're one of the best combos. From D.F. we like Lost Acapulco (my favorite band ever), The Cavernarios, Twin Tones, Espectroplasma, Los Elasticos, Sr. Bikini, Los Twangers, Berenice, El Balneario,Los Oxidados, Telekrimen, Los Magnificos and many others. There are more bands from states outside of DF but I don't remember them at the moment. If you want more specific info please PM me, oh and by the way, I'm glad you're fully recovered from that nasty illness.

I have heard some of the bands you mention,
and I have noticed alot of them don't use tank reverb.
Why do you think that is?
do you think they know about it, and don't like it?
or probably don't know about the tanks, and just use the built in.

just wondering, as I like some of the music, just wish it had more reverb.

I suspect it comes down to two words: Los Straitjackets.

Well, they do know about the tank reverb but somehow they just choose to use only the built in reverb, I don't really know why. Shocked

Really neat Mr Green, and congrats for sure! I remember my first gig (fall 1963) just like it was yesterday. But, nobody even thought of taking pictures. There is a really cool site www.myfirstband.com, which is a riot.....I need to post someting from the early years of eddie katcher........keep it up! ed

Traditional........speak softly and play through a big blonde amp. Did I mention that I still like big blonde amps?

Thats what I thought after I posted the question,
and then I remembered seeing them a month or so back and thinking.
Man, the LSJ's would sound so much better with a tank.

go figure......

Tell them to listen to the Astronauts, or the Fathoms, or the Surfites, and they will all be converts.

Do you have a tank?
if not are you planning on getting one?

Jeff(bigtikidude)

Jeff(bigtikidude)

I would love to have a "tank" reverb but if it made me sound like everyone else, then i'd get rid of it!!
"Tell them to listen to the Astronauts, or the Fathoms, or the Surfites, and they will all be converts"
I say be yourself! Sound like what YOU think is cool, with what equipment you have, or, can afford. There's too much pressure here to have the Jag/Jaz reverb tank stuff. If you can't play....it doesn't matter what you use does it? I've got a gig tonight so i gotta go thru wardrobe and makeup still or i would just go on and on and on........hehehe. Hey, i still love ya whether you have a tank or not!! Tanks for listening.

Very cool Sir Green Cool

bigtikidude
Do you have a tank?
if not are you planning on getting one?

Jeff(bigtikidude)

No, I do plan on getting one but I have other gear priorities first, like getting myself a nice tube amp on the mid-budget range (Hot Rod/Used Twin) and that Inca Silver 60's Mexican Strat I've been craving a long time ago. Drool

I agree with Ron on the "why do some surf bands use tanks/why some do not" thing, I think the only reason that keeps Los Straitjackets and many other surf/instro bands from getting a tank is that they simply prefer their sounds without that much reverb, they think it's cool that way. You, I and a lot of other people prefer the wet, drippy sound you can get from a tank but that's just a matter of personal taste. Thumbs Up

Agree I couldn't imagine Los Straitjackets using outboard tanks it would just take away from thier signature sound as well as those other instro bands that don't use outboard tanks but onboard reverb.

Yes of course ! I was close to buying it once but I didn't cause I was sort of hurried, I've also heard a couple of themes featured on it. Now I regret not having been patient. Do you know the record label that put it out or do you know where I can get it?
