Dave Gonzales is a killer guitar player, and a really nice guy too.

Off Topic Sorry
Zak, do you have their last record El Matador? Great great record and opens up with a killer surf instro of the same name.

Unfortunately the Paladins are no longer active after a 20 year run. Dave Gonzalez is now in the Hacienda Brothers.

Bummer. I hadn't heard that. I'll have to check out the Hacienda Brothers. Thanks, Ryan!

"Testicular Onslaught"
...is that name too "punk-death-metal"?

The Paladins is taken. A paladin is a person of high authority in medieval europe. It comes from the Latin palatine, which is also where we get the word palace.

I love it! Etymology! I'm heavily addicted myself!

See Wikipedia on paladin, palatine. I think this doesn't mention that Pfalsgraf is the German version of count palatine. The English rendition of that is palsgrave. The Frankish title "Mayor of the Palace" is connected. Chamberlain of the royal household, basically, but a bit like a vizir.

The connection here was Richard Boone's Have Gun - Will Travel character. I guess the role should have been given to Richard Chamberlain.

Another one I thought of, Lords of the New Surf, is taken, too.

How about Resurrection Men? I've run into this as a term for suppliers of corpses to medical students in the old days. A bodysnatcher. Some folks may assume you're Christian fundamentalists.

Back to Horror:

Baskerville County Pound

What do they call the little windows in old coffins? I remember a book on Wallenstein that included a photograph of one of his fellow generals - Tilly, I think - taken through his coffin's window. The years had not been any kinder than the Swedes.

Are we going for a horror surf angle? How about:

The Hearse Chasers?

The Freaky Phantoms (old cartoon)

Sonic Zombie(s)

Dracula on Drugs

6 feet down

The Bleachboys (dye your hair fellows)

Bloodsugar

What the Hell: The Tremological Reverb Society

That took 5 minutes, I could go on, let's get some more stream of conciousness ideas out there.

Resurrecting an old thread

Don't forget the cool LA latin naming convention of using "Los" with an English name. (Los Teen Tops, etc.)

Los Chumbuckets sounds real cool!

And scour Plan 9 for potential names. I'm sure there's something there.

Los Criswells, Tor and the Johnsons, Graverobbers from Outer Space, Solarbonite, Los Solarbonites (YEAH!)

Reverboholics?

The reality is that we do not wash our own laundry - it just gets dirtier.

So do surf bands follow the gothabilly conventions of gory names, along with surf, outer space, and Spanish words?

How about wordplay like The Surf Aces? (Maybe that's taken).

I will think further about this. Combinations of words are your best bet in band names and URLs.

the Noriegas - (like the dictator)

Chuck and his Norrises / Chuck and the Norrises

I think I like "Chuck Norris and the Noriegas" Twisted Evil

sounds kind of like a norteno surf band...

I was thinking about similar words and I came up with suffragettes, so thought of The Surfer Jets, which could either be surfboards with jet engines in back (a la Big Daddy Roth) or airplanes that dive into waves.

I also thought of stream of consciousness words from surreptitious (sneaky surf sound) into Stripper Tattoos, which morphed into Star Pit.

Yeah. Commonly occuring pairs tend to yield a zillion hits in Google, so a unique combo or odd spelling is good.

Hmmm.. let's see...

The Dynosoars

The Rimrunners

Spiral Jetties
(uh... totally no connection with the Robert Smithson artwork of similar name)
image

Jelly Finger (it just rolls of the tongue so easily, but sounds more like a blues band)

The Cosmodrones

Reverber Rays

I'm not a complete idiot. Some parts are missing.
