Hi All,
My friend Spike from Australia, friend of the "Atlantics" surf band and
promotor of the TVS3 vintage analog Echo box has sent me this recording
he did using the TVS3 made by Paul Rossiter in Oz.
It's a Surf tune called "ATLANTIC ECHO" composed by the Atlantics and is superbly interpreted by Spike with a rippling echo (Shadows type).
It makes me think that the Reverb tank which is so characteristic and
indispensable to Surf music can be beautifully complemented with this special kind of rippling echo.
I let you be the judge. Here it is. I wonder if you have heard or
played this tune before.
The Atlantics are playing in the background (Backing track sold by them).
atlantic echo
I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
Regards,
Abdel

I wasn't able to download the mp3 for some reason, but I also love the multi-head echo units of the old (as do all the people that love the Shadows, I guess). Earlier this year I got an early sixties Klemt Echolette that needed some serious servicing, but now it sounds very good (though still pretty noisy). Anyway, I LOVE this unit! This is the one that the Atlantics used in the sixties, and nothing else sounds like it. It is unbelievably flexible, with tons of cool effects. Why can't they make them like this anymore? I will be using the Echolette on several songs on our next CD which we'll be recording next month.
BTW, I'm not sure that these echo units are actually that fitting for surf music. There's definitely a conflict between heavy reverb settings and echo. Reverb tends to kill the repeats of the echo, and it's easy to end up with a mush. You have to be really careful to get it right. The Atlantics kept the reverb pretty low and cranked the echo for their sound, keeping closer to the Shadows lead guitar sounds than American surf music (and they had a foot in both worlds).
I'm glad you're around, Abdel. I always enjoy hearing your playing - it's really something! I wish you'd join us in other forums more often, too.

Hi Abel
Thanks for kindly posting my Atlantic Echo on this site. I feel very honoured.
To anyone who wants to get more information, they can visit our website at www.tvsspecialtyproducts.com or email me direct on spirohatzi@yahoo.com.au
If you go to the sound file and video section you can hear a lot of tunes played on the TVS. The good thing about it is that it doesnt have all the maintenance cost associated with echo boxes like the Meazzi, yet can produce the same sound.
Cheers
Spike

Hi All,
Glad you could make it Spike, I see some interest in this unit within the Surf community.
D-Day, The Binson is quite an Echo machine, and I wish I had one, but
I am sure Spike can explain to you the advantage of the TVS3
Analog machine too.
Ivan, It was nice to meet you (for the first time) at the Pitcher's house
last year. I enjoyed very much the Madeira show and my friend
from Canada whom I brought that night was delighted.
(I wished you did your fabulous "The Savage" version too).
Could you point out to me the other Forums ? as I am not aware.
Thank you.
Blessings,
Abdel

Thank you, Abdel, that's very kind of you to say. That was a crazy night, lots of disorganization and confusion, from the bass amp not being available for our set to the volume issues and being treated like crap by the club manager. Not one of the better shows we played, but it was great to play with Slacktone and the Insect Surfers again, and the large crowd was very supportive and enthusiastic which made everything much better.
(I wished you did your fabulous "The Savage" version too).
That's one we did in the Space Cossacks (and my Shadows tribute band the Troubadours), never with the Madeira. We figure we already have plenty of songs with that rapid rhythm guitar and floor tom drum part!

Well, what I mean is that you only ever post in the Surf Videos forum of SG101. There are several other forums in SG101 - go here to see them all: http://www.surfguitar101.com/modules.php?name=Forums
Thanks, Abdel, keep up the great work!
