Just picked up this one on red vinyl!

One side is instro, the other is vocal. If you're a fan of the Panasonic stuff Eddie Angel and Mr Pan did, you'll enjoy this. It's good stuff.

Yeah, that's a great comp. I can also recommend vol. 2 which comes with a bonus 45.

I just won the Original Surfaris' 1965 "Wheels" LP (VG+ condition $8.99). I've passed on it in the past after reading the Reverb Central review but it really can't be that bad I think. Anyone already have it?

wow thats cool Klas, I've never seen that before.

I just picked up a cd of the ACE records "Birth of Surf"

after playing Marty's copy recently for Kristena, and myself,
and Looking at the Liner notes, we both agreed that it was a must have.
tons of all ready owned songs for me,but the 2nd half is amazing.
and the Liner notes are really good.

I just kinda choked at the 20 plus dollars price.

Klas,
Yep, I've got that one. Definitely more straight up R&R instro. Pretty bluesy.

I was kinda expecting that after reading the Reverb Central review. Still can be worth having I think even if it turns out not being up to par with their earlier efforts.

Thanks to Jeff, I just purchased The Birth of Surf on Ace Records. I have most of what's on there, but I had a definite agenda after hearing Marty's copy. I needed to get "El Toro" by the Surfmen and "Earthquake" by Aki Aleong. Those two tracks were the motivating factor for me and it was money well spent! I haven't bought any CDs lately, come to think of it, so it was time. Razz

Plus both Famous Monsters CDs and The Finks' "Dirty Rotten Finks" 7"

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

Richard Bennett - Themes From A Rainy Decade. Might not be pure surf, but it led me to here (this forum and it's plethora of musical info). Up till then I thought surf instrumental music was dead. A great record to listen to, I am just not sure it falls completely under surf. But they're related for sure.

Last surf CD I bought was Space Rangers: Ready To Take Off, on the German-based KamiKazi label.

I discovered them on Myspace and looked up their album. It was an import which I only found available stateside through one distributor: interpunk.com.

Fantastic music and well worth the trouble to get it.

Dom Mariani and the Majestic Kelp-Music to chase cars by. Great stuff.

My next intended surf album will be
The Dan Rumour Band (another Australian band!) who has a great instrumental version of The Cruel Sea's Down Below.

It's great to see what people are buying out there.

Just received "That's Swift" CD, an instro compilation. Several unissued cuts including "Torquette" by The Fireballs and "Las Vegas Scene" by The Canadian Nomads. You can read all about it:

Lord Shiva says 8 thumbs up!

Just bought "Daddy O Grande and Lost Acupolco" CD. Not bad overall.

I got the LP the other day and I'm pretty sure that only the first track "Delano Soul Beat" is actually by the Original Surfaris. The rest sounds like the typical budget label studio musician uncredited type of recordings. However, the last track is really good in a Dean Carter rockabilly / garage vein and is the only vocal on the album. The Original Surfaris track is pretty good too, although I already had it on another (much better) comp on a sister label. And the fact that the condition of the vinyl wasn't as advertised didn't exactly make me happier about it.

Ryan, where did you order that Astronauts from?

I already have one, as my old work was one of the Importers that brought that into the US. but we sold out of it in a few months.
