A few years ago I had to sell my outboard reverb along with alot of other gear. I'm finally getting back into playing again and thought you guys could help me out. In your opinion : What pedal is the best for that drippy sound I used to get from my outboard? Thanks in advance !
PS I know another outboard would be best ,I just can't afford it right now.

there was a good thread about this a while ago, that i created. I was asking about the Danelectro Spring King Reverb pedal. The consensus was that it was one of the better reverb pedals that some people will use as a emergency back-up, but in no way shape or form can it replace an outboard, such as a fender reissue.
I would say hold off on buying the pedal and save for the outboard, thats what I did and did not regret it. If you buy a pedal, it will have no value once you get the tank. So in essence its like pissing away 150 bucks. I know a place where you can get the fender reissue for 100 bucks cheaper brand new. Or you can go on ebay and look for a used.

disagreeing somewhat: when money really is an issue, the digitech digiverb would be a good choice at under $100 new. that, the spring king, the line 6 verbzilla and the electro harmonics holy grail are the only pedal options that do a tank-simulation, afaik, and of these, the digiverb has the best price-quality ratio.
I have two tanks and I still use the digiverb on a regular basis, when I carry light (bicycle, train) with a small practice amp, and I always take it to gigs as a back-up (our second guitarist uses my 'other' tank). plenty use for it.
that said, there is no substitute for the real thing. true.

That's the thing, Money is short right now with 2 kids and all. I've read all the reviews about the different pedals but you guys would know the sound I'm looking for. Later on if I try and start a band again I'll get another re issue. But for now a pedal will have to do. I'll have a hard time justifying 300 - 400 dollars to play in the basement with my drum machine!

i think this is supposed to be pretty good: http://www.songworks.com/reverb.html
i have a dano spring king and its pretty cool, my only problems with it is that it has this trebly ring thats been getting on my nerves and i find myself craving more reverb, although the stomp feature is very cool which sounds like a crashing wave and is a pretty cool effect. although i think im probly going to go ahead and get a tank at some point in the near future, ill probly still use the spring king just for the crashing sound

I have read too many negative reviews of the Songworks Little Lanelei Reverb pedal...it seems that the consistancy of their quality is questionable...and it's costly.
The Danelectro Spring King gets okay reviews, but, I have heard about it's "tinny" sound...and it's somewhat pricey
The Holy Grail Reverb by ElectroHarmonix is kind of costly, and I have read that those pedals can be noisy.
I think that a digitech digital reverb stomp box would be the best bet for the low-budget reverberation...

$70 is a good deal for the Digiverb, and it's the only digital pedal that comes close to mimicking a tank. I've had the Holy Grail, which is really over-rated IMO. I currently have the Digiverb and the Verbzilla, in addition to a re-issue Fender tank. The Verbzilla has excellent reverbs but it doesn't touch the Digitech pedal...as far as surf goes. I still have a Dano Spring King that I bought years ago and, as was already mentioned, it gets ear-piercingly shrill when you try to get a good "drip" out of it.

Well, I picked up the Digiverb today and I'm happy with it. After some adjustments to my amp and pedal I found a sound and tone I'm happy with for playing in the house. Thanks again for your advise ! Well, Now I'm on the hunt for another guitar. I kept my Les Paul Jr. and a Martin Acoustic and the Jr. isn't gonna cut it. I'll have to start a new thread about that.
At a BBQ at my house last nite a drummer friend suggested starting a band for fun so it looks like I'll be saving for the outboard afterall. But I do like the Digiverb for now.

good luck on your quest dean. I was in a very similar situation. I played in hardcore/punk bands as a teenager, when I went to college I found my gear slowy disapearing for various reasons. All I had left to my name was my Telecaster and my Girlfriend's DaArmond, no amps, no effects. I just finished grad school and I knew I was going to get back into music when I had more time, so I started putting some money to the side for a while. Well, an AV RI Jag and a Fender Reverb later, I am slowly starting to rebuild. I wish you the same luck. I happen to get s steal on my Jag, check ebay like a stalker, you will get gems for great prices often.

My kid wanted a reverb to use with his battery amp so I tried the Dan Electro Slap Echo and EH holy grail. Next to an outboard tank, there is no comparison. I would save your money for the outboard tank.
The DanO Slap Echo is a bit un-natural sounding and has limited tone adjustment.
I liked the EH holy grail, until I started playing songs that require long sustain. The digitization error at low signal levels is really annoying - solid notes turn in to a buzz before they fade out.
Look for a used re-issue, they seem to come and go for $250.
