Alfredo,
I think that Vinyl is great, but, Most people in the USA don't have turn tables anymore. It's just not convenient, ( easy to store, handle, travel).
I can't play a LP in my truck, when driving somewhere.
People can make cds sound good. you just have to tell them what you want, and how it has to be. I agree that some cds sound horrible,
but I have some that sound great.
I think the Longboards 2nd album should be cd, and LP.

Yeah, I definitely prefer vinyl to anything else. The problem is that I'm hardly ever home and I'd never get to listen to anything. So mp3s and CDs let me listen to music pretty much all throughout the day.

I have a Sonographe SG3 table, MMT arm, and Sumiko Blue Point MC cartridge running into a Superphon Revelation II preamp, a modded Superphon DM220 amp, and a pair of Linaeum LS1000 speakers and it totally kicks ass on CDs for only around $4,000.
THAT is why CDs are popular

personally, i think CD's are very rapidly becoming a thing of the past. Everything is slowly becoming MP3's now. Which makes it easy, if you want to release something, release a vinyl LP, then put a code inside which will allow you to download the full length release in MP3 format. That way people have a tangible physical object to collect, and MP3 files to burn to a cd, or put on a MP3 player for when they are on the go.

i'm not disagreeing with that at all. i don't think that CD's sound as good as vinyl either though. However, i don't have a good turntable or stereo to hook one up to, so it's CD's and Mp3's for me.
i do however have a tube power amplifier, a counterpoint SA-12 to be exact, for once i do get a decent stereo to hook it up to. it's not in working order at the moment, i guess the "output stage" is fried, so i have to figure out how to fix that.

....i've got my eMac hooked up to an old sherwood tube amp and some jbl speakers and it sounds really good. i also have a turntable hooked up. i'd forgotten how good lp's sound.

thank you so much for that link
I was gonna say how much, it seems to me, anyway, that vinyl is on the up and up
more and more of it showing in the stores
in Europe, incidentally, vinyl is HUGE
but this article made my day
for the album alone (the size, the artwork, the readable print)...I dig vinyl so much more
the sound seems "fuller", more "realistic" to me
might be b/c that's what I grew up on (I am 55 years old)
I still have all my vinyl; maybe 5000 LPs in a 5-story walk-up!! I get the sense I ain't goin' anywhere for a long time!!!
give me them clicks, them pops, them scratches.....
vinyl rules!

As a vinyl seller by profession, you can guess what my preference is. The Europeans' and Japanese seem to know this, they are at least 75% of our business. And it seems lately, more and more customers at the swaps are in their 20's or so. I wish more people would do new releases on vinyl. You can always record it to CD or mp3 files to make it portable and have the master copy at home. But, in my opinion, nothing is better than vinyl for listening (besides live music of course!)

That's so true ... only it's the cardboard we're really liking there. For the music itself I honestly prefer CDs, but perhaps I've never had either the money or the hearing to appreciate the difference in sound quality. The CD format is just so much more convenient.

I just got a Numark TTUSB from here so that I could put soundclips on our websites. Very easy to set up and use.

I buy vinyl over CDs anyday. It just seems so much more concrete. When I'm having some people over, it feels really good to pop a record on. I do wish there were more new releases on vinyl; although the punk scene is doing a great job releasing a lot of stuff on record. Even most of the local punk bands have 7"s and LPs.
I also have a great time searching through the thrift stores and flea markets for random old relics.
Too bad all I mostly find is a billion Chuck Mangione and Barbara Streisand albums.

there was talk about this recently by Sean Of Double Crown records.
I believe he said that the sales of vinyl was just too low for him to consider
putting anymore out.
its cool, but not viabl;e enough to do it for the surf crowd in USA.

I prefer vinyl as well. It's too bad that the new Fathoms is not going to be available on vinyl. I've ordered the CD plus the previous release ON VINYL!!! (yeah)
We tossed around the idea that our next CD may be our last release in that format. There seems to be more $$$ coming in from digital sales now.
Our next, next release is going to be a 4 song 45rpm. The studio time is already booked for the session. I think we'll make it available digitally as well (similar to what Deke did with his last 45rpm).
Long live the wax,
Rev

I also in general prefer vinyl over CD, but with quality hi-fi system not always vinyl records sounds better than the same CDs.
Also there are exists very good recorded surf CDs - for example - Bamby Molesters - SONIC BULLETS: 13 FROM THE HIP (very good but not traditional surf sound)
As for a vintage surf sound - there is no choice - only vintage vinyl records
