Permalink showman on ebay: What's your opinion?

New Topic

Does anyone have any thoughts on this? The price seems too good to be true. I was also under the impression that these amps used 6L6 tubes. The ad says that it has factory installed 7355 tubes. Should I assume that the circuit etc has been modded. I'm not familiar enough with these amps to know if this is BS or not. I would have thought that, contrary to this seller's statement, this amp should in fact kill innocent bystanders.

The Faceplate is not original "A repro" the letters "Showman" are small, on the "Vibrtato Channel" it has no mid control as real BF Showmans have, the chassis seem to be BF Bandmaster like, it's been moded, if you can live with it not being a real Showman then go for it, Showmans are meant to run with 6L6's tubes for, loud, clean, headroom, you don't want this head to break on ya, I have never heard of Showmans coming with 7335's
unless the tube chart is a repro as well and made to look old, and trust me that's an easy thing to do.

Save your dough for a real Showman, they come up often on ebay.
Cabs are easy to come by repro or vintage, don't sweat it Wink

I checked the chassis # and it is indeed a 1963 model. I would guess that it was originally blonde with sparkle gold grillecloth. I remember reading somewhere that there actually was a transition Showman circuit with the 7355 tubes, so this is probably one of those. Obviously it didn't work out very well as it was very short-lived. The faceplate is the correct "Fender Electric Instrument Co." one for a pre-'65.

It is doubtful if the cabinet came with this amp, as it does not look to have been recovered. The head is missing the chrome corners and the speaker has been changed from the correct D-130F to a 140. The 140 would be great for bass, though.

I'm with Kyle, though. If it ain't LOUD, then something is wrong. Even a good 40 watt Bandmaster is a pretty loud amp when cranked. I believe I'd pass on this one...there are plenty of AB763 Showmans out there.

However, I'd love to have the cabinet!

Thanks. You confirmed my suspicions. I thought that the description was less than forthcoming. I've been toying with the idea of getting a larger amp and have only begun my research. I figured that this would be the place to get the straight dope.
