Hey Guys,

It seems we have a small but enthusiastic surf scene growing in Huntsville, Alabama and the surrounding area. Members of bands such as Daikaiju and The Penetrators call the place home.

Just on a whim, I decided to start a yahoo group called The North Alabama Surf Alliance (NASA): an online group for the promotion, support, and networking of the surf music scene in and around North Alabama. Membership is open to players and fans alike.

I thought it only fitting that the logo (and acronym) pay homage to that other organization that's such a large part of Huntsville.

If anyone is interested or has ideas about how to promote it give me a shout.

Traditional........speak softly and play through a big blonde amp. Did I mention that I still like big blonde amps?

I was about to complain that you didn't extend it to other gulf coast states but your acronym is too good

Eddie, I thought you were the Big Kahuna of the Atlanta Surf Song Elevation Society (A.S.S.E.S.)?

Is Murfreesboro, TN close enough to Decatur and Huntsville to qualify? Woody and Eddie, maybe you both should join my new organization..

Just curious to know if there is a South Alabama Surf Alliance- are there that many surf bands in Alabama that you need two chapters? Very Happy

Hey Matt,

I need to check back more often! We ought to organize a spring shindig around these parts.

Spanky

Absolutely! Let's do it! ed

Count us in!

Monsters Of Surf
Daikaiju

Then let's put it together. Anyone care to suggest a venue? There's always the Flying Monkey.

We'd talked of this before, but with a few months of planning we could really do it up right. I'm thinkin' beach party.

If anyone else is interested let me know. It'd be great to get four or five bands.

How about Brannen Springs? Isn't that near you over in Huntsville. I raced hydroplanes on that lake once in the early '70s.

I drove by it when I was in Huntsville for Rip's memorial service and couldn't believe that we had actually raced on that tiny lake!!!!

How about a several band winter "ice breaker?" always a fun thing.....ed

I'll put some thought into some locale's. An outdoor family friendly place would be ideal.

I've already spoken with the Monkey staff and it's a go there if we want to go ahead and set a tentative date.

If we wait till it's warm enough we could do it outdoors on the back docks, and have volleyball and other beach activities on the lawn. Maybe even incorporate in an old school car show or cruise-in to draw more people.

OK, so let's get this thing set. Who's in so far?

Daikaiju? The Penetrators? The Mariners? Anyone else? Please let me know if you're definitely in.

We need a date. How does a Saturday or Sunday in April sound?

thanks Matt,

Count the Surge! in as well. Sounds like a large time and the earlier we have a date in mind, the quicker we can confirm it.
