I had someone this weekend recommend a Vox Valtronix AD50VT amp as a good beginners amp for me. Wondered if you guys were familiar with this one, and what you thought of it. I agree with him that if I am going to spend money on an amp I might as well get something decent size and quality wise. I saw one in a store this weekend but got there right before closing and didn't get to plug in and check it out. They also had a couple of nice fender amps too, and some vintage fender amps that were in the 800 dollar range (and up)
Thanks again, and hope you guys don't mind answering all these basic newbie questions. I really appreciate all the advice,
Larry

I've got the AD50VT's little brother, the AD15VT (I got it
really cheap!), and it is a very good sounding little 15W
amp. The models are good. The reverb is pretty decent.
They have a unique "valve reactor" power section that
emulates the power sections of various Vox, Marshall,
Fender and other amps. They put 12AX7 preamp tubes
in there to warm-up the tone. It's a very versatile amp.
Considering that it has a little 8" speaker, it sounds HUGE!
You might be very happy with the AD50VT. But just the
same, I would recommend a spending a little more for a
"full-on" tube amp with tubes in the power section and in
the preamp. You ought to be able to find a used Fender Hot
Rod Deluxe for about the same price, or a new Blues Jr.,
or a Carvin, or a Traynor, Peavey, etc.... Or you could
spend a little more yet and get something even better. It
really depends on what you want in a amp.
Happy hunting!!!

Hello Larry If your going to get a Vox rig don't get the Valtronix rigs
instead for about the same price you can get yourself into a reissue AC30 1x12 rig or 2x12 for an extra $100 or so or even better for the same dow $800 or so you kind find a vintage US late 60's Vox head and Vox 2x10 or 2x12 cab on ebay, These heads are great late 60s "Berkeley I,II,II" "Westminster" "Royal Guardsman"
"Beatle" "super Beatle" "Buckingham"
I am a big Vox fan
here's my one of my vintage Vox 2x12 bass rigs with vintage P-bass
