Can anyone identify this song for a friend who needs to know? An acquaintance of his is seriously ill, which he says is why he wants to know about the song. Evidently it was on an old 8-track tape. The original tune is J.S. Bach's Bouree. Have any ideas? Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks Ferenc,

Yes; it definitely is Bach's "Bouree." I wasn't sure. I still need to know the band name and song title of this specific recording:

Thanks again!

The only surf version of Bouree that I've ever heard is by the Baronics, but this is not them.

I heard the Ventures version...but, the link you posted sounds like a live performance...

I can confirm the identity of the original piece. I can also confirm that the Baronics recorded it, too, and, as Dane says, it's not their recording, and probably not them. It doesn't sound like them generally. I haven't heard the Ventures version DP mentions, but off hand it doesn't sound like them playing. I'm sure DP's a better judge of that than I would be. I think DP was saying he didn't think it was them either, but that it sounded live, while their version he knew was not.

It sounds like the lead part is played through one of those devices that lays a human voice on it. (Don't know the term.) Or maybe it's a synthesizer?

An 8 track tape would, I think date it to before c. 1975 or so. I believe they all spontaneously burst into flames about that time. Anyway, I haven't seen one by the side of the road trailing mylar everywhere in a long time. I did see a cassette tape in that incarnation recently out in Portland ...

Hey, I sell 8 track tapes!

We were thinking possibly a Canadian or UK or Australian band because it sounds like The Shadows. I've got a panel of experts working on it now.... Smile I'll post again if they come up with anything.

Outsides,

sorry,:ot:

do you have the Pink Floyd Animals 8 track
it has a guitar solo between 2 songs that is not on any other format other than the 8 track.

if so how much is it worth,?
I have 2 of them.

BTD, Sorry too! Off Topic

I'll PM you (email, I know you hate the PM)

that's exactly what I meant!...I heard a studio version on the Ventures "Joy" cd...

I'm not sure the link even sounds like the Ventures at all...
Wink

This is what my panel came up with:

I don't recognize it straight off but I know a French group (Les Fantomes) did something like this - "Hully Bach"

Hope it helps.....

Off Topic 8 tracks were released into the 80s-at least past 1979. The pearl of my humble collection is Ramones "Rocket to Russia". Sounds so good. For a while I had an 8 track recorder and would record some of my fave stuff to it that I thought would sound good on that fat tape (late 60s Beach Boys, High Llamas, surf, Esquivel...) and it worked! It really sounded warm and sweet.

The short Amazon sound sample (track 9 on disc 2) ends pretty quick after the acoustic intro but one can tell it's not the same song.

Thanks outsides and Klas. No it doesn't sound like this is the Les Fantomes "Hully Bach." I'm actually glad to know about this song by Les Fantomes! It sounds pretty cool.

Thanks again,
Tom
