I believe Jim Fuller was the only original member at the time as Ron Wilson had died a few years prior, and Pat Connolly quit playing in the mid-60's. Jim Pash would have been there in '95 as well, and he was almost there since the beginning. Bob Berryhill didn't start playing as The Surfaris again until 2000, after all the other original members, aside from Pat Connolly, had died. The current Surfaris are the Berryhill family - Bob's wife (Gene) and their two sons (Deven and Joel).

So no founding members, even though Pash was there a couple years after they formed (after Wipeout). Regardless, I'm looking forward to this record.

Not true. Jim Pash was a founding member of The Surfaris. If you have a 1st pressing of their 1st LP, you can plainly see Jim pictured on the back cover. He was not present for the session that produced "Wipe Out/Surfer Joe." There are differing reasons why he wasn't present: One was his parents made him stay home to do his school homework the night of the session; another was that he needed to help his father with a new family business. In any event, Pash was in the band at the time of "Wipe Out."

The Surfaris website begs to differ with their origin story, stating "Initially catapulted by the California surf culture, The Surfaris transcended the local scene into international stardom with their hit song "Wipe Out." In 1962, Bob Berryhill (15), Jim Fuller (15), Pat Connolly (15) and Ron Wilson (17) from Glendora, California formed The Surfaris.
On a cold December night in 1962, these four young men wrote Wipe Out in the studio after recording Surfer Joe. With the help of manager Dale Smallin (Wipe Out laugh intro) and recording engineer Paul Buff, The Surfaris recorded the 1963 hit version of Wipe Out and Surfer Joe." Under a photo of their first LP, the caption reads: "The Surfaris Play album on Decca Records, which included sax player Jim Pash."

That said, my initial comment was incorrect as I thought he had joined the band a couple of years after its formation when, in fact, it appears he joined with the first year and he was there when the band rose to fame. Founding member or not, I agree he should be considered an original member of the band.

"The Surfaris Play" was their 2nd LP. The bio on the band's website is a bit misleading. Do you have a copy of the latest edition of my surf music discography?

No, but I have been looking for it. It appears to be sold out everywhere.
